    Compared to what???

This is why I bought a 2015 instead of a 2016. So I could tap ten years of mods without having to invent the wheel myself.

And is perfectly worthless in most of the Western US. The effing radio station temperature at 1500 ft tells me nothing about the temperature 10 miles away at 8000 ft where I'm actually driving.

We can't of course leave out the usual sucktastic mileage! Not that 3rd gen improved that at all. Really I could care less about the mileage itself, what is annoying is the limited range. I could deal with the crappy mileage if it had a larger tank. And really that might be the better solution because I'm not sure I'd want to put up with what it would take to make the engine more efficient. The 4.0 V6 is pretty darn reliable.

Anyway, I've mostly highlighted the dislikes here. Reality is I love the truck and does what I need it to do better than all the alternatives.

    It's paid for.

Mine is pretty basic. Simple is better sometimes. For me at least. If I want fancy, I'll do it in something other than a truck.

    Gets great MPG.

Hauls everything I ever care to haul (kayaks, bikes, home improvement stuff)

It's well built enough (as most modern vehicles actually are) to last me 20 years, easy.

Dislike. Well, I wish it had rubber carpeting instead of carpet. :D

And I have taken it to the dealer more times in 1 year of ownership than I have in my time owning my 15 year old F250.
    Oh and stock stereo blows

My first Toyota and more than likely, my last. Which really sucks because it is a bad ass looking truck and its fun to mod :(

    Ford Cultist from now on.

I find the sliding rear window pretty much useless, I have to pull over to open it or close it and dont really care for the 4x4 knob, I would rather have a shifter.

What issues have you had with yours? I've owned mine for a year and a half and haven't been back to the dealership yet.

Compared to a Nissan Frontier I drove the same day I bought this Taco. The Nissan was hellish loud inside, and felt plastic-like and cheap.

2014 TRD Off-Road, I would like a larger gas tank and a thermometer that told me the temperature where I am at present. With the off-road package, you get stiffer seats, a little too stiff in my opinion. I removed my drivers side seat, removed the cover, cut out a chunk of foam under my butt and glued in and shaped a softer piece. It's much better on long trips now and you can't tell by looking at it.
A replacement seat foam was $165 for the base model and it was actually a different part number than the TRD one. I figured if I screwed it up, I'd just pony up for a new one but it turned out good. Now my wife wants me to do the passenger side....

    Start issues
    Possible axle wrap
Rough trans shifts/trans shifting after stopping

It wouldn't bother me as much if Toyota would just fix the problem. Instead I get a run around and the "this is normal for these trucks" attitude. I'm worried once my warranty is up magically someone will approach me with a very expensive fix. They'll be like "ohh now we know what it is". My biggest fear is its an electrical issue thats thousands in labor to fix.

I am shocked they did away with the temp in the mirror, the last couple years of the 2nd gen!

My 2012 is the last truck I will buy. It's all I need, with room to grow.

I've had my 09 since April 2015, I've put about 25k miles on her. I bought her to replace my 99 Ranger, the Ranger was better at some things than the Tacoma but generally speaking the Tacoma is rock solid.

Totally agree with the heated mirrors, got a 2013 for over $30k I think I should have some damn mirrors I can see out of! Also not a fan on those rubber removable cup holders, if you put a cup in that's just a little too big the damn thing comes out with your drink.

Other than that it's a smooth quiet ride even with my lift and tires!

So true, those cup holders are just strange. I have coffee mugs that don't fit and do the same thing you mentioned. If I remove it to put my Nalgene bottle there, then I have this weird rubber cup holder laying around with no place to put it. I've seen vehicles that have designed better ways to accommodate different cup sizes. And the ones in the door are a joke. Nothing fit in them.

Doors are for bottles only, like water or soda. I think it says right on the door panel to some extent.

OP, I wouldn't consider the tacoma quiet, but coming from a civic i could see why.

    Biggest peaves
    1. No temp and compass (HD one doesnt count, i want to know what the temp is outside my door) Way to cheap out
    2. creaks, squeaks, clacks, and clicks, seems a new one pops up everyday
    3. weak rear leafs
    4. undersized trans cooler
    5. No onboard mpg type crap. Thats why i have to use an ultragauge
    6. Overall cheap feel of the interior. Feels like a kids play car
    Overall, happy though

Lack of heated mirrors and 2lo capability! :spy: lol jk... sorta

For me the interior and the engine are a bit dated, kind of feels like Toyota figured why update if they are selling so well. Otherwise very happy with the truck.

I've owned somewhere around 20-25 vehicles, live in MN and never had heated mirrors. And never saw the need for them. Maybe it's a regional thing? I do however, miss the heated steering wheel from my old E39.

    For a 2014 $3Xk vehicle:
    No outside temp display?
    No HIDs???

Other than that, happy as a clam.
