New member and just got a 14 Tacoma SR5 today. In Ohio, we're required to have front plate. So, I started a conversation with ACEkraut to get one of these bought/paid/sent to me...thank goodness the dealer didn't drill in the front bumper, rather, just told me " I don't know how you're going to get that license plate on there...there is no bracket for it..."

Good thing for you that the dealer did not know that the captive nuts are under the bumper cover and you have to drill to get to them. Starting a conversation shortly.

Wait, what? There are actually captive nuts? My dealer just used self tapping screws into the plastic. I just wish I'd seen your mount before I'd bought the truck.....

Well, I am pretty certain there are captive nuts, if my memory serves me correctly. On my truck there were two slight indentations to indicate where the plate bolts were to go. And my dealer drilled my bumper, despite very specific instructions given multiple times not to drill it. (That is how I got my bed extender for free) With my black truck I used some 3M seam sealer that comes in strips and filled the holes until it was slightly indented. If you look, you can see where the holes were but not unless you are looking for them. Is your truck black?

It is, but I have a base model, so the bumper is textured black.

Aha. I think the seam sealer would still work.

I just ordered my new mount! Should work perfectly to lower my plate so I can put a LED light bar in my lower grill.
    Thanks for the help Aaron.

The nuts are simply hollow posts molded into the plastic of the bumper. Just groped them last night since I couldn't see them.

Got mine installed today. Fit was perfect and install was a breeze. Took me longer to find my tools than to get it all mounted. Much cleaner and better looking than toyotas idea for mounting the plate.

Here's some pics of the lower brackets I've roughed out so far. Not pretty yet and need to adjust angles some more. They started as off cuts from some scrap for a bussman mounting bracket being hacked together.

Slick! I have considered producing similar bits and pieces before to add a place for the lower plate holes to fasten and told a few other customers I would make them something if they wanted. So far no one has taken me up on the offer. The extra material and more importantly the extra time it takes would add to the cost and I think drive the price higher than people would want to pay.
One person "borrowed" my idea for the regular bracket and made his own bracket and was kind enough to PayPal me a little appreciation. After he finished he said if he were selling the brackets he would charge $90 each!

The price you offer these brackets at makes them very easy to purchase and they are fine as is. It's the OCD in me that made these extra bits desirable.

LOL. No worries, I am the same way. I often buy something then modify it to fit my taste and needs. I have worked with some customers in the past to make some modifications to fit their needs. I have no problem with you doing what you like. Sometimes that is how a product is made better or a now product is developed.

Which should I order for my 2008 with factory skid plate?
May be getting a light bar in lower grill and think I'll order one of these beforehand.

The LM-1215-SP will work great! I assume you are keeping the skid plate?
