a.) I like the word "oilery"
b.) Have been using Mobile one 15K full synth oil for the last 10 years in all my trucks, not planning to switch. At 15K, oil still looks usable (I can see through it).

It's very easy. I was thrilled to see that my new truck has topside, conventional oil filter. That's how it was on my 2008 4Runner. My wife's 2013 4Runner has a cartridge filter, I have to remove two skid plates and a plastic bumper part, then disassemble the filter while it's on the truck, then drain it with a special plug included in the filter, put a new cartridge in and repeat the entire process backwards. It took over an hour.

I actually stick with 5,000 myself, I was just making the point that 3000 is a little overkill and wasteful.

Wow that doesn't sound like fun at all!! Yes we were surprised to see how easy it would be to do the oil change on the truck!

I go anywhere between 3000 to 5000 miles between oil changes depending on how much towing I've done. Mobil 1 5W-30 with factory filters.

Any place that recommends 3,000 mile oil change intervals is a place I cannot take seriously and would try to avoid. If they recommend any repairs or additional maintenance, I would get a 2nd opinion.

We do most of the maintenance on our vehicles anyway, especially anything that requires labor costs. If they recommend anything we usually tell them no thank you and do it ourselves if it's needed...

The factory interval is 5000 miles and is more than adequate. I'm switching to Mobil 1 once Toyota Care is up but I'm keeping the 5k interval since that's about every 6 months for me. I have a bunch of Mobil 1 I bought for cheap at Costco just for this purpose.

If you have a 4x4 make sure you grease the zerk fittings on the drive shaft u joints, front and rear.

Let me plug Oil Changers in So Cal. They insist on recommending a 7500 mile oil change interval on my work truck (a 2006 Ford F150 V8) despite me insisting my employer wants to stick with the 5000 mile severe duty recommendation. Every time I got there, they put that little sticker on the windshield with the 7500 mile recommendation. What I like about Oil Changers is you never have to step out of your vehicle. You sit in and listen to the radio while they do the work around you. They even check all the lights for you to make sure they are all functioning. Mind you, this is only for the work truck; I change the oil on my own vehicles. They also offer free top off if you take it withing 3 months or 3K miles.

I've settled in to the fact that I'll be changing the oil every 5,000. Took a while to convince the 50year old that that's how its done now. Will I switch to synthetic after Toyota is done with her at 25,000, I don't know. Any whooos, I cant get past the fact your supposed to change the plugs at 30,000

But if you are going synthetic may as well go 0w-30 for even better start up protection. Even 0w in HOT ambient temps (like 120*) is still to "thick" to properly lube up a motor, but it is much thinner than 5w at non operating temps.

    assuming v6.
