That makes sense and could be the case. Yours looks pretty similar to mine though. Here’s a video I took of mine in action.

I picked up my truck today with the new parts installed and the difference is night and day. It now drives more like a car and not a dump truck.

After disassembly the pivot arm was in rough shape along with the slave cylinder, but the stock clutch was in pretty good shape not showing that much wear after 183,000km.

With the new parts there is much less effort to engage the pedal. They were able to greatly reduce the clutch engagement, it is quite low now compared to the factory setup which was so annoying for me.

I'm very happy and would highly recommend this upgrade to anyone with a manual 2nd gen.

Update :I haven't been able to fully troubleshoot the issues i've had with installing this bearing and clutch kit due to life happening, but i gotta get my baby back up and running since my other whip likes being a pain in the ass too much (e55 amg m113k) and i trust it about as far as i can throw it..

I did drop the trans again and checked all my lines- no leaks, everything torqued right.. Im pretty sure the issue is with the clutch masters pressure plate not releasing right (rebranded exedy...). I am going to try and throw my old clutch set up back on, or at least the pressure plate, and see if that changes anything. Anyone else have any bright ideas ?

Is the pressure plate powder coated?

I had an issue once where the dowel pin holes on the pressure plate, were coated through. Wouldn't slide over the dowel pins without resistance. No problem once bolted down, right ??? Nope. Distorted the pressure plate. Disassembled from flywheel. Dremeled out the powder coating to allow it to slide without resistance, over the dowels on the flywheel. Clutch worked like a champ then.

Maybe or maybe not your issue. Worthy of investigating.

Update: @Torspd the comment you made about the dowel pins got me looking at the clutchmasters pressure plate more closely. Comparing it to the URD one, it looks inferior in many ways. The URD one definitely has more room for the plate to lift off the clutch..

Anyways I threw the URD pressure plate back on , got the trans back up, lines bled and boom! I can get into all the gears with ease with the truck running. The URD pressure plate also has a much more firmer feel.

I guess I’ll be hitting up clutchmasters on Monday and see what we can do here to fix this...

Think at least a couple people did but probably haven't installed yet. The OP had no issues with his clutch in an fj. Kind of glad I didn't bite on their clutch now cause I was considering it. Be interesting to see what they can do for you.

Be interesting to see what the issue is with that pressure plate.

Yeah I have a Clutch Masters FX100, have had zero issues with it. From chatting with Clutch Masters a handful of others ordered the release bearing and clutch kits as well and sounds like quite a few have installed them and they haven't had any word back from anyone about issues. I wonder if when you were installing the trans you potentially bent the clutch disc and that's why it wasn't releasing? I know that Clutch Masters bench tests all of their clutch assemblies after they are assembled to make sure that the clutch is working properly and that the disc is releasing before it gets boxed up. Curious did you put the URD cover/pressure plate in with the Clutch Masters disc? Or was that the URD pressure plate and disc? Keep in mind a pressure plate does not need to move much to disengage the disc.

Also someone asked about powder coated covers, the Clutch Masters covers are painted, not powder coated.

Definitely give CM a call, they have always been super helpful about any questions or issues that anyone might run into and making it right. Let us know what the outcome is!

I tried the clutchmasters clutch disc with both the URD and the "Clutchmasters" rebranded exedy pressure plate. Only worked with the URD pressure plate. that clutch disc isn't bent, I never hung the trans off the clutch splines or never had to fight the trans on the motor... Like I said by now I'm surgical with getting this trans on/off ...

Gotcha. Yeah it's actually quite a common thing for people to bend discs so that's why I tossed it out there, wasn't trying to imply you're not a capable mechanic by any means! Curious what could be going on there.

Hope my post didn’t come off as rude, i do appreciate your input- I’m just a wannabe mechanic..

Anyways take a look at this side by side pic of the urd clutch plate vs the clutchmasters one. Notice the difference in hub size and hub springs..

That would explain why my URD clutch is a bear to push in.

I think that's actually from the clamping force on the pressure plate.. which URD clutch kit do you have ? after installing both pressure plates back to back the clutchmasters one made the pedal feel kinda flimsy...
