2nd Gen Parts Fitting 3rd Gen

I am considering trading up my 2011 Tacoma TRD Sport for a 2016. I received the familiar offer from the dealer of "we can give you the same monthly payment rate" if I were to trade up.

One thing that is affecting my decision is the ability to transfer some of my aftermarket accessories to the 2016 Tacoma. Are any 2nd gen parts compatible with 3rd gen?

I realize Toyota did a complete redesign, but that doesn't necessarily mean some parts wont fit (bolt hole placement for nerf bars, front bull bar, etc......)

Has anyone seen any parts/accessories compatibility discussions, charts, etc??

 

Suspension components are the main thing I know of that are compatible.

 

nerf bars should fit just fine as well. As for bull bar, you're probably out of luck there since the front is a totally different shape.

 

I talked to ARB and they are designing a bull bar now.

 

I know the oem roof racks and running boards have the same mounting holes

 

That's good to know. I can order my front runner roof rack now for my '16 now.

 

The new roof rack is rated at 100 pounds instead of 75 for the 2005 to 2015. Before you just lift components on it read this thread by the company that does lifts and suspension for a living.

Does anyone know about tow hitches compatible from 2015 to 2016? I hope the Curt # 13323 trailer hitch works.

 

From what I've been told, 2nd gen LED light bar roof mounts fit 3rd gen for what that's worth...

 

Hitch is totally different on the 16. Suspension is the same. I took my Icon Stage 5 kit off my 12 and installed it on my 16 with no issue what so ever.

 

Would my Undercover tonneau fit on the 2016?

probably not. From what I've heard and read everywhere the bed is a different size now. Cant remember if its wider or deeper, but regardless not the same size.

It's an inch deeper and a different shape, so 2nd gen likely wouldn't work.

 

Correct, an inch deeper and where it meets the tailgate completely different.

 

The husky liners from my 12 fit like a glove.
