I’m new here so I don’t really know how any of this works. But I’m curious about the types of performance mods that can be done to 2nd gens mostly regarding smoother shifting, but also power, gas mileage, lighting, convenience, etc. I’m hoping things that can be done that won’t change reliability too much. Thanks!

You’ll want to say what you have. 07 manual, ok. V6, I4? Model? Double cab, access cab? 2 or 4 wheel drive? Budget? Goals? Track trailer queen? Lifted off-roader? Ask the right questions, provide the right info, you’ll get plenty of help here. Welcome to Tacoma world!

Ah okay! It’s a 2007 trd off-road I believe (new to Toyota completely, used to be a Ford person). Has a 6 spd manual trans, 4.0 v6, double cab, 4wd. I would want to keep it fairly cheap so maybe upwards of 2k-3k if necessary. Unless it’s something that will have a big positive impact. I’m gonna have it on 2 inch lift and slightly bigger tires than what came stock. I just want to make it a great daily driver. Such as smoother, better acceleration and better turning. But still be able to take it in the mountains and explore trails. Thanks for responding!

You’re definitely in the right place. This board is dominated by the off road crowd. That puts me and my xrunner left out mostly.

A good place to start would be basic maintenance. Oil change, plugs, transmission differential transfer case gear oil, air filter, etc. I’ve seen the off roaders like to do a differential breather mod. I did the clutch accumulator delete mod (search adm) along with the hurst short shifter.

Search for it, you’ll find someone who did extensive research on oil filters, that’ll help you decide which one you want. Most use the stock Toyota, never a short one. NEVER ask what motor oil to use. Everyone has an opinion, everyone is right on the subject. Another one is spark plugs torque and or anti seize. Some things it’s best to decide for yourself. Search and you’ll find what plugs to use and how to get that one difficult one out and in.

This is the best forum I’ve ever been on. Lots of people with lots of knowledge. Search stuck in ocotillo. I’ve never seen a bunch of people come together like that to help someone in a bad predicament they don’t even know.

    I don't know
I got Redline MTF just like everyone else, and it's not that good
Kind of like the idea of eating McDonald's for breakfast, lunch, and dinner
Cuz That's What Everyone Else Does
    but it's not that good

So if you find something better let me know

I'm sure there's better out there

There was some discussion about gear oils. GL4 GL5 something like that. It explained the differences and which is the right one.
