How well does the 2nd gen auto do in the mountains especially with larger tires and loaded? I am considering selling my 1st gen for a 2nd gen due to lack of power when carrying gear and running larger tires. Will I be running into the same issue even though the 2nd gen has more power? I figured because of the increased weight it might be about the same.

I drive from Denver to Avon pretty often, and I haven't been disappointed so far. Two people in the cab and 500lbs in the bed and I could do 90 up the passes all day. I'm currently running 275/70 R17 Cooper AT3's. Just drive it like the V6 that it is, force it down a gear and rev it up.

With stock Dunflops on the SR5, 245/65/16? or something like I can power up the passes without issue depending on how much I want to downshift and rev out the engine. 65mph in 5th gear is pretty easy to do with a dirt bike, and 400 lbs of other crap in the truck.

Get a supercharger and that'll really help. :D

I haven't re-geared yet, was definitely considering 4.56's. I had 33x12.5x15 tires, but went back to stock for now til I figure out what I'm doing.

I also considered a supercharger but for two reasons did not go through with it, I could only find the tan guys and secondly, I wasn't sure how well the engine would respond to boost after 150k miles of no boost.

Now if I could only find a supercharger for the 2nd gen... :D
