So the 2nd Gen Prerunners have 245/75R16 which match the 4x4's 265/70R16's tire height of around 30.5 to 31 inches. I'm guessing that was toyota's approach to give a off road look to the prerunners. In my opinion they look too skinny for their height. Has anyone out their tried using like 255/70/16(30") or 255/65/16(29")?

I'm thinking a slightly smaller/wider tire would increase performance, lower the gear ratio, and give better traction when towing (especially up the boat ramp)

    Not quite.

SR5's get the 245/75/16's, even if they are 4x4's.

TRD offroads get the 265/70/16's, even if they are preunners.

You can run 265/75/16's (32's) on stock suspension. That's an extremely popular tire size on here.

Going down to 30's would look pretty odd IMO.

32" even with 4 cylinders? I already have a sluggish ride with my 2.7 since I have added extra weight, ie, leer cap, yakima boat rack, tow hitch, sub box etc.

there are plenty of people on here running 33's on 4-cyls. I think I saw someone running 35's on a 4cyl as well.

Wow, that's impressive for a 4 banger. So at what tire size do you need to change the gear ratio?
