ECU failures are probably the most miss diagnosed item in auto electronics. For every 100 replaced because of a running issue probably 99 were good still fine and the last one probably was a connection problem. In 35 year of auto work I may have replaced 4 and 3 of them were GM.

And I heard something like a voice in the center of the four living Parts Guys saying, “A quart of synthetic oil for a tenner, and three quarts of synthetic gear oil for a twenty."

And Saint Attila raised the Holy Hand Grenade up on high
saying, "Oh Lord, Bless us this Holy Hand Grenade, and with it
smash our enemies to tiny bits." And the Lord did grin, and the
people did feast upon the lambs, and stoats, and orangutans, and
    breakfast cereals, and lima bean-

Yeah it's amazing how a cleaning of electrical connections can solve problems.

It's been several months since OP updated this thread, I'm about ready to "unsub"
I haven't had ECU failure, presume the tinfoil cover I constructed for it has managed to save me a lot of grief!:tinfoilhat:
How come Toyota hasn't posted any TSBs to correct this issue?:notsure:
