You guys ever seen this before?
the rack was replaced 5/23/2020, and has 5,000 miles on it.

This is the passenger side mount.
I believe the part is under warranty through Napa Auto Parts on Oahu so the plan is to pull this one out and take it down. But I’m wondering if this was preventable in any way.

    Mahalo in advance!

Mine did this with a NAPA rack. They dont weld all the way around them for some dumb ass reason. I just welded mine up all the way on the 2nd one.

came across this thread during a search to see if this was a common issue, my remanufactured rack also broke the same way.

It turns out, my LCA bushings were really worn out. I suspect that might have been the cause of my rack and pinion bracket failure too.

Prior to the crack, my right front tire slid into a hole while offroading a very slippery trail. Heard a super loud clunking sound, but nothing looked broken. I’m thinking, because the LCA bushing had play, it allowed for excess inward motion of the assembly and put excess pressure on the tie rod and rack. A few more offroading runs, turned a fracture into a failure.
I could be wrong. But that’s my attempt to try figure this out.

I’ve since replaced my LCAs with dirt kings.
I’ve replaced LCAs a total of 3 times prior to the dirt kings, and I only have 95k miles haha

I wish I would have too. But I solved the issue before i installed the replacement. I was able to weld it hot cause I have poly bushings so I didnt burn the rubber. Even the guy at NAPA said it was a piss poor design. I asked him if I could weld it. He said he didnt hear what I said. Lmao. I just painted it and looks factory.

It happened again with the new Napa rack and pinion. It lasted 6 months 4,000 miles.
It happened 10 miles up on the trail so I had to use x3 250lbs test zip ties to get back down the trail, and drove it 30 miles back home. (That’s far on Oahu haha)
I have dirt king LCA now and it still happened so I think off-roaders should stay away from Napa Rack and pinions.

I’ll be replacing it with OEM next.

I was replacing it with aftermarket LCAs, but stock style. I got dirt king LCAs now.
