Is anyone running the BodyArmor 4x4 rear bumper.

My son was in an accident and is looking to replace the rear bumper. His budget is pretty tight. He found this one and was asking about it. It does show to be 3/16 steel.

Thought I would see if anyone has one.

Looks a lot like some of the cheaper ones on ebay.

I cant answer your question directly. But he can look around marketplace, see if he can find any used takeoffs or aftermarket OEM style (cheap) to get him by in a pinch

I used to own the earlier boxy one from BA and it's was 110llbs and stout. I do like this new design but haven't seen it in person. But from the specs, 3/16" steel and weighing 113lbs, it's hell of alot better than the cheaper Hooke Road and eBay ones that's half the weight and thin metal. Just have to address the suspension if going this route.

insurance probably pays $1300. That buys a high clearance with side protection. Part of the point of a rear bumper.

another point of steel is an integrated hitch that is higher clearance and lighter weight than slapping steel on top of a factory low hanging heavy tow hitch.

Insurance is doing about $330 for a factory rear bumper. If they did $1300, we would already be ordering one with a swingout.

I would say try coastal off-road for a rear bumper if you want something a little more reputable for being tough for off-roading, but if it’s just a daily driver then the body armor one will work great. Body armor in my personal opinion isn’t the greatest option in terms of being great off-road bumpers, they do look good though!

If you guys have a little bit of wiggle room you will be happy with coastal!

I would have a shop get an actual quote on this. If the bumper is that messed up the bumper support, and rear hitch are also shot as well. My truck hit a tree at 5-8 mph and there was no visible damage but addressing a rust issue this summer it was found the entire rear assembly was damaged. When it initially happened I was quoted $1,500 base price to repair but could be more. If insurance isn’t giving you all of that you should be very skeptical. Issues with not replacing or checking it all out is an aftermarket may not line up correctly. Mine looked completely fine but after trying to remove and reinstall it was definitely not fine. Lots of hammering and jimmying to get it back on strait.

If your interested in a stock chrome bumper I still have the one off my 2011 Offroad. Hitch included. I sold the Tacoma a year ago and its just collecting dust in the garage so its in excellent condition. Msg me if interested and if your in socal for pick up. Ironically I was just thinking of cleaning it up and listing it FS.

factory new bumper, labor to install it, and possibly paint

    I doubt it

did you get the estimate yourself and submit
or did some tweaker shop spray painting cardboard contact them behind your back “we can do it cheaper”

depends on what’s damaged. Sometimes it’s more than just the cover.
