2nd Gen RSI Smartcap EVOa Adventure

Hey I’m new to the forum. Got a 2014 Spruce Mica last year, and knew I wanted an rsi Smartcap for it, but didn’t know they only made them for 3rd gen — good news is that they came out with 2nd gen recently, and got mine installed yesterday! Went with the EVO a model (no windows on the sides) and WOW! The matte black with the Spruce Mica is just perfect. Gotta shout out my friend at S-Cargo here in Colorado for sourcing and install

 

Good for you, but I'm not seeing the 2-gen models on their website yet.

 

Might have to contact a dealer since it just came out? We got on a pre-order list in like September last year and it just arrived this week with the supply chain delays.

 

Looks great. I'm jealous. I ordered mine in August. Hoping to have it next month. When did you order yours?

 

Similar timing! Original date expected was early December. Hooe your arrives soon!

 

yeah original date was Christmas, then Jan, then February. Now it's "on schedule" for March lol

How would you sleep in the bed if there’s no windows for breathing?

 

There’s a pass through window in the front, and a vent in the top!

 

Looks very nice, and super functional. I researched the heck out of these, and was completely sold, until i realized they didn’t make one for my gen 2. So now that they do…i’ve already bought a fiberglass topper which should suffice for now. Some day i will re-evaluate a smart cap.

 

If I was in the market for a topper I'd be all over that like stink on a skunk. But I already have a FG one cannot justify spending that much coin to replace what I already have. I'm not sure how much I could get for selling my old one anyway.

 

Alu-Cab makes a similar product if you're having trouble finding the RSI cap for a 2nd gen. From everything I've read it's comparable. I almost bought one but opted out last minute.

What makes RSI smartcap or Alucab better than a regular shell like Leer 100XR?

 

that is a really sleek and fluid setup. I love the shock actuated side panels, lots of modularity and add on/upgrade potential. Ill be damned to spend that much vs figuring out how to fab it up though

Mostly the dynamic load rating for carrying heavier things on cap rails is much higher. I think other things like additional mounting points for gear, lights, etc... and it might be moderately harder to break into based on the model you choose.

 

Got word a few days ago that there is shipment of 2nd gen Evo's arriving at US port by the end of the month. Mine is in that shipment and should get delivered within a month.

I have a Leer 100XR and wonder how these compare side by side next to the RSI. The only thing I'm not sure of is lost space on the bedrail. the Leer hangs over the bed rail where the RSI seems to sit more "inside" the bed. I want windoors and sometimes think about going RSI and selling my setup....

 

Just got the call my camper arrived today. Should have it installed by Sunday!

 

The strength to weight ratio of the aluminum is much better than fiberglass. The side windoors are bigger too.

I liked my Alu-cab, unfortunately the water intrusion was too much and I went back to a Leer. Also those little flip latches would freeze shut constantly. If I lived in a warmer/drier climate it would have been a great cap
