    Hi,

Recently submitted my first post but I think I overloaded my post with too many questions so here goes again with a focus on one question at a time.

I am wondering if you folks can compare the 1st gen Taco seats to the 2nd gen Taco seats? I had 1st gen double cab Prerunner for a couple of years and grew to hate the seats. I am 6'2" and found them to be way too soft and not long enough so they really caused discomfort on long trips. Did the 2nd gen usher in newly designed seats? Are there any mods you can make to the 2nd gen to make them more comfy for long trips?

    Thanks

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Idk about 1st gens, but second gens have all the legroom in the world. These trucks were designed for NBA players to drive I think. I feel my little truck has more legroom than my dad's big Duramax diesel even.

Wife & I got back from 1200 mile trip to Las Vegas & back home. We both feel the seats are comfortable. We've also done a couple 4000 mile round trips in this same truck. I had a 97 Gen 1 for 11 years then bought my 08 new. I feel the seats in the Gen 2 Tacomas are much more comfortable & supportive than the Gen 1 trucks.

I drove my dads 04 Double-cab TRD around for almost a year, and have no real complaints about the seats. Now that I have a 13' TRD, I can't say much in the area of improvement in feel for me, keep in mind I am a 145 lb. 21 year old, and my skinny ass probably doesn't sink into the seat enough to feel a difference. I feel like the 13 seats are a bit "stiffer", whereas the 04 seats seemed a bit more cushier, albeit a thinner seat. After about an hour I start to fidget in my 2013 seat. It doesn't feel bad, but its not the most comfortable seat ever. Now I do like the headrest position better!

I liked the seats I had in my 02 4runner the best, even though they looked barely different from my dads 04 Tacoma. They were very cushy.

2nd gen TRD seats are celebrated on this forum.

I preferred the SR5 seats in my 2010 Tacoma.

I had a 03 gen 1 SR5 and the seats were covered in that old toyota velour crap. The seats were small buckets with poor leg room for my 6'3" body. I endured these seats for 10 years. My new 13' seats are covered in what seems to be an attractive durable fabric...velour is dead! Lots of leg room and the seats themselves are very comfortable. The gen 2 seats are a major improvement over gen 1.

Had an 01 with the velour. Seats were smaller IMO. The 13 sits much more comfortably with more adjustments and lumbar support adjustment. The steering wheel is also a massive improvement.

I've made numerous 4-8 hour drives in mine, and have driven up to 14 hours at a time in it. It's comfy. Definitely better than my buddie's 98 Tacoma extra cab. I don't think you will have a problem.

    can't speak for the differance between 1st & 2nd gen...but zero differance between SR5 & TRD

the TRD seats have a woven fabric...that is a dirt trap. the TRD bolstering is better but not by much. and I liked the fold flat passanger seat feature of the SR5 seat (it actually was handy a few times)

Ok - good to know - I guess I need to get in a couple of these bad boys and determine whether I like the TRD style seats or the SR5 style seats. Again, many thanks to you all.

I was looking for the same answers when I found your thread. I had a 98 Limited and liked it. I heard that the seats in the Limited models were 4Runner seats, not the standard Tacoma, and for me they were very comfortable on long trips.

My 2011 Tacoma is a great truck, but I think the seat is very uncomfortable for a long trip. I've tried adding rolled up towels and small pillows in different configurations and tried an ObusForme lower backrest support.

I'd like to either redo the seat foam with more lumbar and butt support and bend the headrest angle so it doesn't push my head forward or better yet, find another seat to replace it with!

I recently traded my van for a 2013 Subaru Outback and the adjustable seats in that car are excellent. Very comfortable. I was hoping Toyota would have made the seats in the Tacoma to be as good or better than my old 98 or close to as nice as the Outback's, but no such luck.

    Maybe for the 2014 Tacoma?

I had a 1st generation 4x4 double cab. I now have the 06 4x4 double cab. 06 has longer leg room, seat has lumbar support (gen 1 seat sucked), I don't have the 4x4 shifter handle digging into the outside edge of my right knee (gen 1 issue), and they did not hide the clock behind the steering wheel on the 06.

I just recently traded in my 02 for an 07, lots more leg room for sure and i think the 2nd gen seats are way more comfy. They feel like the wrap around and hold you in more than the 1st gen. I definitely know what you are talking about with the clock behind the steering wheel....that blew

Ok, well I plan on buying a used DC Taco in the near future so I won't really be waiting for the '14 version. ;)

Perhaps I should attack this from a different angle as it seems that everyone has a slightly idea of what works for seating.

What are some proven add-ons/additions/cushions that might help those of us who think that the seats doen't fit them right? I know there is a cushion that lets your tailbone suspend. Has anyone tried one of those bad boys? Or perhaps there is something that has the combo lumbar support and butt support?

    Thanks
