    My guess would be that it needs the brackets to hold the cable in place to function properly.

    It's not going to shift until the cable is bolted down.

    Is your truck a 2.7?
    or a 4.0?

    If it's a 2.7, the brackets will be different.

    Yeah its 2.7 I have to make a custom bracket so it bolts on something from the cab.

    Predator tube steps, Ranch Hand grill guard, Magnaflow CatBack exhaust, Toyota tool box & bed mat, 2LO Module by @Up2NoGood, Rearview Compass/Temp Mirror, Tune by @JustDSM.
    You need to find someone that has done such a swap, I don't know what's required/different.
    I thought this was just a standard shift cable replacement.
