I have a 2006 regular cab tacoma, 2.7L 5spd, 4x4, I have been looking for a good locker option, I'm sure there are other threads but for my sanity I decided to make my own. I have been considering detroit lockers due to price, ARB airs would be awesome and all but im not made of money, Suggestions?

Look at east coast gear supply and see the options. They are all listed. ARB is nice since you can turn them off while on the road and dont have to worry about lock up.

I loved the ARB's I had on my sas 03 but they cost an arm and a leg, I got shown up by a prerunner due to open diffs and I have had enough lol

Have you tried the yellow wire mod? https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/4low-trac.51946/

I'm not sure if it works in the 06's but it worked great in my 11

The thing about the cheaper lockers like the detroit is that they are not fun to drive on the street and make noise.

I looked into it and it won't work for me sense i have no traction control system, Im not supper opposed to the cons of an LSD, a little noise and tire chirps are alright, I have enough rattles and pops anyway lol

Man, I know you live in Hawaii so there’s not nearly as much inclement weather BUT as a guy who (right now) has his Detroit being swapped for an arb I’d advise against it. There are many times an open diff comes in handy. Soft terrain. In wet ground a locker makes you slide all over the damn place, gunk your tires into racing slicks, and send you nowhere you want to go.

I thought a Detroit was perfect for me until I realized it’s limitations in the soft shit.

Edit: Completely read that wrong, thanks beer, I’ll leave it for anybody thinking about a Detroit tho

That is good to know, we don't have snow too often on Maui, and when we do its only on the highest point on our Mountain, but we do have slick muddy roads in the rain, especially where I live. I'll look into other options, do you feel I could get away with just installing the compressor instead of a tank as well, Being a Regular cab I don't have too much space

I have a Detroit and I really like it. It has some odd tendencies on the street. If you hold the gas through a turn its not bad, but if you get off and get back on, it will try to lock and kinda bounce. Mine has chirped the tires a couple of times but not bad. Also I have never heard mine engage or disengage. But I know it does because I can feel it.

Perhaps a detroit trutrac its a limited slip, I have one an absolutley love it best mod Ive done. It uses helical cut gears so no clutchs or springs to wear out. Its a seemless operation no noise or whine. Really increased my trucks abilty for traction. Granted its nowhere near a locker but still 2x a good as a open diff.

I know the space problem, a fiberglass shell does wonders. But for your prerunner showing you up problem, work on flex if you don’t wanna drop locker money, with enough flex lockers are pointless anyway right? (To a certain extent)

I have new leafs and ICON goodies ordered, should be here this week, I guess i notice the lack of flex more because of the truck I owned for a few months early this year, big sas 03 taco on 37's ARB lockers front and rear, with chevy 63's and all that fun stuff, which also never had a problem with traction

that's what I wanted to hear! lol, my brother has King 3.0 rear shocks and OME dakar's and it feels good but too stiff for my liking, not to mention the weird ass noise coming from his shackles when he goes from a stop. Being such a short truck I feel like hitting a bump in the road hits all 4 corners at the same time and its pretty jarring if its riding stiff (like the Bilsteins and OME stuff i ran for a long time)
