You will 100% regret doing that. And you will spend twice compared to if you just put the right trans in the first time. Ask me how I know.

I wanted it low and didn't have the front driveshaft to help check clearance. The main culprit is the exhaust/transmission shifter and I shaved a bit out of the cover off the bottom of the transmission bell housing. The fun shenanigans of putting a big transmission into the small space of a A750F.

I get that. I would wait a wee bit more to acquire the funds for a 4l80e. Buy once cry once.

I'm going to try 3/8 and see how that goes. Ideally I don't want to have to relocate the engine mounts on the frame if I can.

What did you end up doing for your radiator hoses? If you bought some molded ones what are the part numbers ?

I bought some AC Delco ones and a piece of aluminum pipe:

These don't fit as is. They will require a barb connector on the drivers side lower radiator connection and another barb connector with a steam port on the upper hose. I got a piece of TIG welding rod and used that to mock up a route for the coolant hoses. I went to the local parts store and those 2 AC Delco ones worked out nicely with a couple of cuts.

Did you have any trouble bleeding the system with the extra amount of hoses?
