I actually ran into a very fortunate post on here from a guy named Jeff who happens to live in the same city as me.

Also after researching this ALLLLL day, I also beleive this tranny is good. I will be buying this one and hopefully it was just an unfortunate event that wont happen again.

To swap the v6+supercharger is going to cost you far too much from a dealer. Ive swapped many motors personally into you name it... Hondas, Supras, Lexus', Nissans, Fords, Chevys, etc. Its really not that hard if you have time, patience and common sense. It would not be difficult at all to swap a 2JZGTE into any tacoma, nonetheless EXTREMELY cost effective. I have A LOT of experience with that motor specifically, and would be more than willing to help anyone with advice on how-tos, and to also make power easily and inexpensively, without being "CHEAP" or "GHETTO-RIGGED". When you're talking about buying the V6, and supercharging it and maybe making the stated 400hp(not even sure if thats WHP or not), you're going to spend a decent amount of money. You can buy a nice 2jzgte non vvti(which is what you want, for 2000-2500 shipped, with only 50,000KM on it. Yes, the v6 SC will make more power than a stock 2jzgte, and probably a bit more tq given it has a litre of displacement over the 2j; but I GUARANTEE its not going to last 250k miles, as I have with my past 2js, while making over 700whp + 650ftlbs tq! Aside from that, lets say you buy the 2jzGTE for 2200, get a taco 5spd, and a 1j/2j bell housing, do the wiring harness(which is NOT going to cost you 1000; instead maybe at MOST 600 outsourced), then you spend another 250-300 in simple Bolt ons, you can make over 430whp(maybe just over 400whp after it goes through the TC) and you have arguably the best motor ever built in your tacoma for arguably much less than going with the v6 SC, as those SC kits are an arm and a leg to begin with... Just giving my experienced .02c on this. Ive read this thread a few times, and I don't think a lot of experience is coming as far as real time advice. Im going to be doing it myself within the next few months, and I'll be excited to share the outcome, just so everyone knows its not as out of reach as you may think. Given the cost of both the v6+SC kit, for the same money you could have a 500+hp 2jz Taco, and being that the stock bottom end of a GTE is good to 900hp, that motors not even trying with such numbers competitive to the SC v6. Whatever you decide to do, Godspeed, brother!

ARB lockers and 4.88s front and rear, OME 886s, Dakars, etc., Safari Snorkel, 17"Fuel Revolvers w/ 35x12.50r17 KM2s, fenders cut 3" all around, Pioneer AVH-P4400BH w/ Backup cam, CB/PA (PA Installed), Weathertech Digis, Foglight anytime, AP: front bumper, skids, and pack rack, custom sliders, Warn 9.5XP, dual VIAIR 480Cs with a 2.5gal tank, OTRATTW switches galore, URD y-pipe, RCI skids, LF 240s, etc.
Any update on this? I'm torn between a turbo'd 2jz swap or a URD full S/C setup and they'd both be about the same price said and done...
