You are on the exact path my friend!
There is a oil filter thread in here somewhere, and almost every brand you can think of in oil filters was tested and the Toyota OEM had the most filtration
I am personally a Mobil 1full synthetic person myself with OEM filter every 5K. Tranny, every 60-100K

Nothing wrong with what you're doing. I want full synthetic, but I don't think brand matters much. Just use the right weight oil. Same with the filter. The key is to change it.

I used Mobile 1 every 10,000 miles for the 1st 200,000 miles with whatever filter they sold at Walmart. I've been using oil from Costco for the last 40,000 miles. It was $24 for two 5 qt jugs. It's closer to $35 now. In the 16 years I've owned the truck I've never added a drop of oil between oil changes. Whatever I've been doing is working.

    I second this.

When I saw the title, I thought 'it isn't Friday yet'

    Mobile 1 5/30 synthetic + Toyota filter every 5K miles - IMO

    You are doing just fine.
As long as it meets the specs below, you are good to go.

API grade SL “Energy−Conserving” or ILSAC multigrade engine oil
    Recommended viscosity: SAE 5W−30

It's fine unless you have political allegiances against BP (Deep Water Horizon), in which case pick Pennzoil or something.

Yeah, the 2TR and the 1GR aren’t too picky.
Pick one and pour it in.

One can never have too many light bars.
Briggs and Stratton SAE 30 Small Engine oil. My lawnmower and Tacoma both love it. Never changed the oil filter before. I heard it lasts the life of the engine.

It will not matter. The frame will rust out, the engine will blow a head gasket or a crash will end the vehicle long before the choice of oil brand will matter.
