Here is the latest test of the 2017 Colorado V6, ripped a 0-60 in 6.1 Seconds and down the 1/4 in 14.8, that does seem to have quite a bit more grunt. That said, I have never test driven one, don't like Automatics but it does seem like they may have it dialed in with the 8 speed.

I don't expect to see any Tacoma drivetrain or powertrain changes for another 8+ years.

    Same here.

They will follow the same gen structure they always had. Just little improvements and changes here and there.

I have a personal theory about why Toyota has the 3.5L set up as they do, I think they were focused on the Peak HP number as they did not want to be too far behind the over 300 number from the GM Twins. They could have used a different Cam, Intake, and Tune for better Low Torque Numbers but that would have hurt the Peak Number. I agree that we probably wont see any powertrain changes for a significant time other than maybe a minor tweak or two to the Tune.

I guess Toyota can afford to wait that long as they are still selling good numbers of Tacomas, but I think the GM twins will continue to gain on them if Toyota doesn't do something about the A/T. GM had the same problem, and went to the 8 speed. Toyota has other transmissions, throw one in, or offer more manuals damn it!

They followed the GM twins and put in a girly SUV motor in a truck and called it good. That 3.6 of GM's uses oil and has timing chain problems out the wazoo. It does in the Equinox anyways, my girlfriend has the 3.6 in her Equinox and God what a pos. Toyota was chasing fancy hp numbers and mpg and got caught with their pants down. Should have turbo'ed the damn thing and been done with it.

The way I see it, the chevy Luv came and went, and the SR5 was still around. Then came the S10, then the Colorado, both pieces of Junk, and they went. Ford had the Ranger, and it came and finally went. But the Toyota is still around. So, I am sure that those who hate the new Toyota will eventually go to the new ford and chevy, but even though they have left, the toyota will still be here. Eventually the 3rd gen will be looked at as it should be, a great truck that continues the Toyota legacy of building high quality dependable trucks. Then in 2026 the 4th gen will come out, Smitty will trade in his ford ranger and will be back bitching up a storm about what a piece of shit the 4th gen is, and the cycle will start all over again.................

The Luv, S10, and Colorado were just generations of GMs small Truck, Toyota's small truck did not have a name to start that I recall before being called the Tacoma, pretty much no difference between Manufacturers.

Pre Tacoma branded trucks were SR5 sku's if I recollect correctly...agree with the point however

I jumped from a 2nd gen DC 4.0 auto to a 3rd gen AC 2.7 with MT. Didn't have any issues with the 4.0 and it did all I needed it to do. When I was shopping 3rd gens, I could have purchased any model but deep down I wanted a base model for reliability, functionality, and ease of maintenance. I only had the SR for 2 months I can say I really like the 2.7 paired with the MT. All I can recommend is you research as much as you can on the model and features you want. Go to as many dealers and put eyes on interiors/exteriors, colors, packages, options, etc. Test drive lots and make a decision that works best for you.

Mine was a 1995 Toyota pickup DX. Last year before the Tacoma came out. Man I loved that truck and still wish I had it! Hell, I still wish they made them like that NOW!

Yanno, there's one similar for sale up the street from me...900 CDN as is...I'll go tomorrow and take a pic...just for shitz and giggles will post here. If I didn't already have a full stable, I'd buy it for fun
