When it comes to cabin dimensions it's really splitting hairs

At first I thought you were sitting in a Taco. The tundra is only marginally bigger rear seat wise then the Tacoma?

So I went today and drove both trucks. I drove a Tundra crew max SR5 with the TRD package. MSRP was 45842 and they offered me 22500 for my truck. The deal they offered me was 21k on the road. Not too shabby. I liked the truck.

The f150 I drove was an XLT with the sport package, 5.0 crew cab. MSRP was 51k but it was discounted down to 37k. Offered me 21000 for my Tacoma. I actually l liked the F150 better as for ride but the Tundra seemed quicker.

So the point is, today didn't it help me. One thing I will say. After spending a few hours in both trucks, I felt cramped in the Taco. Damn both trucks are huge.

They are quite big for sure. How much louder was the tundra to you? That's a decent gap in price for the f150 vs tundra. Also one other thing to remember is the interior is much more "up to date" in the f150. If you keep your trucks for a long time think about how long it will take before you feel it's getting dated. ESP since the tundra is getting long in the tooth already. I know I would feel like I got slapped in the face if I bought one and a year or two later a completely new one comes out lol!

Owned 2 full size trucks and ended up in my taco! Love it! I had a tundra and titan... both awesome and reliable trucks! Towing I'd take the titan all day everyday I had the titan with big tow package (larger gears in the rear, tow mirrors... blah blah), pulled a 15" enclosed with lawn care equipment (side job I had), and felt like there was nothing there... titans are nasty!

The Tundra was definitely louder. The Tundra is an older truck design but it really didn't feel that much older. The seats were more comfortable in the Ford. And from what I could tell, the SYNC system was miles ahead of the Entune system in the Tundra. I'm leaning towards the Ford but I'm still on the fence.

A buddy just bought the Titan XD with the diesel. It's a beast of a truck but it's butt ugly in my opinion.

I'd never get the new body style lol, I had 2012 and loved it! Torque out the wazoo lol ... something to consider for towing!

I went through the same thing last spring. I've had the Tacoma almost 10 years and 173,000 trouble free miles. But just needed something bigger and wanted something with fewer miles. I seriously considered Tundra based on the positive experience with Tacoma. But for me F-150 was the better option.

I could have traded the Tacoma and bought a new truck. But for the same out of pocket money I bought a 2014 F-150 Screw 4X4 with the 5.0 and 17,000 miles and kept my Tacoma as a 3rd vehicle.

The 5.7 Tundra or 3.5 Ford will be the better options if you tow much more than 5000 lbs, especially in mountains. My 5.0 is rated for 7700 lbs and I'll never tow over 5K so it works fine for my uses. The 5.0 gets exactly the same fuel mileage as the 3.5 and my Tacoma, and to me feels quicker with no heavy load or trailer. The 3.5 gets it's torque at much lower rpm's and will pull heavier loads up inclines much better at around 2500 rpm. The 5.0 will pull about 1000-1500 lbs less, but it will downshift 1 or 2 gears lower on inclines and likes to be turning at around 4000 rpm's when working hard. It'll move the load, just slower and it needs rpms to get power.

The deciding factors for me were the 36 gal fuel tank on F-150. Tundra didn't offer that until just a couple of years ago and none of the used ones had it. Very few of the new ones. I now buy gas when I want to, not when I need to. The fuel mileage was important too. I'm getting 17ish with my daily driving. Small town and rural 2 lane, no true city driving. On the interstate I can get 19+ running 75-80 mph. I made a 400+ mile road trip a few weeks ago when I was in no hurry. I used every trick in the book to get maximum fuel mileage and managed to squeeze 21.3 out of a full size, 4 door, 4X4, V8 pickup. Tundra can't touch that.

But I don't expect to make 200,000 miles without some repairs. I'd be pretty confident in Tundra to do that. But I don't expect any major issues either.

One other thing if you get serious about F-150. Pay very close attention to the trucks door sticker. The axle ratio, tow rating and payload capacity are listed there. Ford is all over the place. They offer so many options and ways to configure their trucks that you can end up with a powerful engine, but the wrong gears and/or a very low payload rating. They advertise insane towing capability, but only if the truck is ordered with certain options that are not common. The truck may be able to tow 10,000 lbs, but the payload rating on some is so low that the tongue weight alone puts you over the payload limit.

Toyota offers very few options in comparison. Most all of them will have virtually the same payload and tow rating.

I appreciate the info. I'm going back Monday to drive both again. I may drive an Ecoboost just for comparison.

You will like the ecoboost, my father had one and it kept having issues with carbon build up so he traded it for the 5.0. The new 17' ecoboost has rectified this problem. With a tune those trucks really wake up. For me this will be my truck for years to come and I see the turbo as just another moving part I will have to replace. I've had 5 turbo cars and have one currently and they have all been great but i replace my cars often. My trucks I keep for a a long time

A bit of an update. Went back to the dealer today to drive both trucks again. Sadly, the Tundra I was looking sold. No big deal. Really didnt want black but it was the only crew max on the lot that was an SR5. Anywhos, I ended up keeping the Tacoma. For now at least. This is the first time since I was 20 that I dont have a car payment and I must say its pretty f*cking nice. Both my truck and my wifes 4Runner is paid for and I really couldn't justify getting a payment again when there is nothing wrong with my Tacoma.

You are showing great wisdom. If you don't NEED the bigger truck for a specific purpose then drive the wheels off your Tacoma. My last truck I had for 13 years and 187,000 miles. I didn't need a full-size truck anymore and it was getting a bit long in the tooth.

^this x10000. As soon as I got my first job out of college 2 years ago I went and bought a nice F250 power stoke (against multiple opinions) even though I didn't need a diesel. Fast forward 6 months and I got wise and traded it in for my Taco. It pulls my Polaris ranger and that's the heaviest thing I plan on towing so it's all I need. Like you, once I pay it off I know I won't ever want another truck note

What's funny about the Nissans is you never see them. I've seen one of the new Titan and I don't know anyone with a Frontier.
