    I am getting ready to replace my transfer case with a used one in my 2010 Tacoma.
    Does any one have instructions for removal?
    I had seen where it may need removed with tranny attached but would prefer not to but don’t know if that is even possible to remove transfer case and leave tranny in truck.
    Thanks

    First of all, welcome to the forum!

    @landphil
    The factory manual specifies that the transmission and transfer are to be removed as a unit.
    However, I believe the member I tagged, landphil, removed the transfer case separate from the transmission on his 6-speed while still on the truck. I'm not sure if having an automatic would complicate things. FWIW I can tell you that I weighed the transfer case one time and it clocked in at about 125 pounds.

    I just put on an FJ transfer case with the transmission attached. Took off the crossmember and lowered the trans with a jack so I could reach the top bolts. Not that hard

    Man, it’s been a long time, but as @Taco’09 said, I split the T-case from my 6spd manual before pulling the trans, mostly to make it easier to balance on a make-shift plate on my floor jack while doing to job on a gravel driveway.

    With a trans jack on concrete, there’s no good reason to do that, especially with the nice flat pan of an auto.

    It was a bit of a bench-press to remove / install the T-case.

    Oh, and certainly no need to pull the trans to swap a t-case.
