I am looking for a used truck cap for my 3rd gen DCSB which is hard to find. I have found a few which are for 2nd gen though but I am wondering how the fit. If you have any experience with this let me know. Thanks for the help.

I've been told no. Tailgate is different. Try a search it's been discussed just last week. Good luck. I'm looking for a Longbed, there impossible to find. I've found all kinds of shortbeds on Craigslist

Thanks for the response. I did do a search but I must not be using the right search criteria because I didn't get any hits that helped me out. If you happen to come across it let me know. It is funny I have seen more LB's then SB's in craigslist in my area.

thanks for that list. I have seen them called many things and that has been some of my frustration when looking for one. I am going used all the way for sure. Thanks again!

So, If I have a 2nd Gen fiberglass white basic cap that sits on the rails and the rear window is laid over the tailgate, I may have a bit of wiggle room for it to fit?

I believe so. If that's exceptable to you try an and post some pictures! I'm looking for a LB one myself to use occasionally. Just don't want to spend 1,500 on a new one to sit on a rack most of its life

The 3rd gen has a plastic cap on the tail gate so I don't believe it'd scuff paint, but also have never seen a 2nd gen on a 3rd either

I thought the beds were different depths too? So it may sit high I believe.

I think there is an inch difference in the bed depths - my cap is a little low on the cab end anyway.
I am not that worried about paint scuffing on the tailgate (I have lived with paint scuffing for 9 years and no problems - you only see the scuff when the cap hatch is open)
And water tight is not a deal breaker.
My truck is more of a work truck and I can't see spending $2000 on a new cap if I don't need to.

I have yet to see any photos of a 2nd Gen cap on a 3rd gen.

2nd gen Jeraco high top on a 3rd gen.... could not open the tailgate once the cap was clamped on...

I am about to attempt the same thing. I have a 2nd gen cap that sits on the rails, it does not wrap around the rails, so I can have a ladder rack outboard of the cap. Other than the rear hatch, it looks like it will fit?

My 2nd gen cap has a wide strip of rubber that seals in the tailgate (does not work that well). But the aluminum hatch still comes below the tailgate. I plan on trimming/cutting a strip the aluminum hatch at the bottom, re-attach with ss rivets or 3M 5200 and slide in the rubber strip again. I am not that worried about security. I just use the cap to keep items out of the snow and weather. And kept bears out of my gear when camping.

It is impossible to find a 3rd gen fibreglass cap that does not wrap around the rails these days. I need that feature for my ladder rack.

Makes sense for your situation and might be worth dealing with the misfit.
I was just using a 3rd gen to transport it from NH to MA.
The cap will be going on my MGM 2010 access cab when the frame replacement is done.

I found a cap door skirt. Cut my old door down a bit. Added the tailgate skirt. Works fine now. It is a bit short at the front, but no water gets in. It was worth the wait over the last 6 months trying to source a tailgate skirt. And worth not having to buy a new cap. Saved about $3000.
