It’s a stretch. But curious if anyone has compared engine mount locations and transmission crossmember location on a 3rd gen vs 2nd gen frame.

may be picking up a 2007 Tacoma access cab with a rotted out frame for cheap, I have a 2021 Tacoma access cab frame I saved that we replaced at work (for a fairly minor fix that could of been done, but insurance company said replace) figure I’d see if anyone as insight on this, if not I’ll be able to find out soon as I get the truck here

I do know the crossmember with charcoal canister is a bit different. But that shouldn’t be to hard to remedy

The motor mounts are very similar I can say that, but body mounts and locations I can't say. I've never had a cab off a 3rd gen. They are very similar.

I'd say its safe, and if you need to, just cut and weld the 2nd to the 3rd.

everything is pointing to it being mostly a drop in swap. frame 2 dimensional measurements line up from what i can tell. top is 07, the 2 fancier pictures are 2021

Picked up the truck. Will document here throughout the swap process as it goes. Next step is getting parts acquired and getting the frames damage fixed

Would love to see a build thread of the frame turning into a truck! Also, that Land Cruiser in the back looks like a beauty!

I’ll be sure to document it as it goes. I likely won’t be keeping the truck. So you’ll probably see it for sale on here too.

I just can’t let these trucks go to junkyards. So fixable if you have the means. (And I’ve had this frame since February)

I’ve got all the suspension stuff sourced. Need to figure out body mounts. (3rd gen shows different part numbers than 2nd gen.) and get some other stuff going but hoping to do the swap soon

Do you plan on implementing any frame modifications before the swap?

Other than cam tab reinforcements I do not. This truck will end up being sold when it’s fixed. This is more of a “I have the parts. So let’s save it from the junkyard”

I’ve got 2020 take off lowers, 2022 take off uppers, 2020 take off shocks and springs. So it’ll be a 3rd gen with a 2nd gen body and drive train.

The 3rd gen frame is already fairly beefed up compared to the stock 2nd gen

Part of me wants to source a good frame (2nd or 3rd), box it how I want then swap my truck over. That's the reason for my interest in your project

the 3rd gen would be a better base to start from. hopefully within the next month or two we'll see how much needs to be messed with. but its looking like not much
