1" lift from 3rd gen suspension, 265/75/16 ATs
    I'm going to quote myself.

    Does anyone know?

I will be picking up new take off (200km) 3rd gen OR suspension later today. Very happy how my 3rd gen Sport suspension installed a year ago turned out, so I figured I'll stock up on a set if I come across a good deal for later. He has stock UCA's as well. Mine are a bit rusty and 11 years old, for extra $50 may be worth getting these if they are the same as 2nd gen?

Considering putting a set of low-mileage 3rd generation take-off shocks and coil overs (the blue Hitachi made ones for the sport) on my 2nd generation 2008 Sport. I have a few questions to those who have done this or those that know better than me. My suspension is currently stock and my tires are one size up at 265/70/R17. Overall, I'd like to have the 1-2" lift that this seems to provide. My truck currently has 151,000 miles on stock shocks. So, an upgrade isn't completely unwarranted.

My rear leaf set is the "recall" set that was put on last year. Am I able to add an add-a-leaf to this set to gain a 1.5" to 2" lift on the rear? I'm not looking for the "bro-lean". It looks pretty simple to DIY.

Any issues with the 3rd gen springs/shocks lining up with the 2nd gen? What level of difficulty would this present to someone who hasn't done shocks/coils before? I've done other things such as brakes, sparks, oil, tire rotation, and etc. I'd be doing so to try to make this a viable option for me financially as I assume it would be in the range of $3-500 to have a shop do all of this work.

    Thanks.

You won't get 2" lift with this setup unless you install a spacer. Currently running take off 3rd gen TRD Sport suspension, blue Hitachi shocks. I got about 1" of lift once settled on '07 DCSB 4x4. You may get a bit more if you have lighter AC 2wd. I run 265/75/16s which is same overall size as your 265/70/17. I also have 4 leaf TSB leaf pack (recall springs). Front hub to fender is around 21", rear hub to fender about 22". Stock 2nd gen suspension was about 20" up front. Here is a pic from last year after install for reference.

Thanks for the reply. I'm okay with a 1" lift. Really I'd be doing this as much as anything to replace the shocks and correct the stance. I find the "recall" leaf pack sags more in the back than my previous TSB leaf pack did.

Did you install an AAL with your recall leaf pack? My truck is similar to yours. Sport, 4x4, DC. So, I'd expect similar results.

Yes, my 10 year old 4 leaf pack was still sitting at least 1/4" higher than new 4 leaf recall springs. :( Don't have AAL, just the oem pack. I did have to get the ECGS bushing within a month of install as I did get some front diff vibes that were gone once in 4HI. For the cost of the bushing (about $60) I would just do it all at the same time.

I had 200k km (125k miles) on my original suspension when I did the swap. I waited way too long and will do fresh shocks next time a lot sooner. I do like this setup a lot. I actually grabbed a set of 3rd gen TRD OR (blue and yellow Bilsteins) new take off shocks last week so I'm ready in a few years or if I blow a shock at some point.

Alternatives I considered were OME 883s with 5100@0 that would net about 1-1.25" of lift. Also the TRD Pro kit, once/if they are back in stock for about $600 is an amazing deal. You should get about 1.75" of lift up front with those and a much higher end suspension with remote resi shocks out back.

I'm pretty weary of differential vibrations and the need to install an different bushing. I was sort of hoping that with only a 1" lift that the vibrations would be avoided. That's something I'll have to consider as part of whether or not I want to do this.

In all honesty, I was probably just really unlucky to get vibrations with just 1" of lift. I would think that more often it should be ok, but you never know what happens once you modify from stock. Also vibrations may not have been as harsh as someone with 3" lift. I don't know since I can't compare. Never drove another lifted Taco, but was enough to bother me.

If you end up having them and have to get it installed, you'll waste more time, money and another alignment. That is why I would just get it done in the first place. ECGS bushing is not that expensive. Would have saved me few hundred dollars. :annoyed:

From what I've read 3rd gen will give 1" up front. That alone would get you almost level with the rear. That aal will probably put you worse rake than stock.
    You running 5100s up front?
