5.29 if AT, 4.88 if MT should get you back close to stock RPM levels.

I definitely don't agree. 2500 RPM at GPS'ed 70 mph with 37's and an auto trans is higher RPM's than stock. 4.88 would be closer to stock on a 2nd gen.

I purposely overgeared for towing which my truck does almost daily.

4.88s IMO. I wouldnt even want to run 5.29s with 39s, not worth the loss in strength for a minimal gain in gearing.

Good point. The shop that did the ring and pinion install on my truck mentioned 5.29 is the lowest gear they'll install on a Tacoma due to the little gear getting so little. They also told me 37's was the largest tire they'd recommend on a Tacoma due to tire/wheel weight and the bearings but you have 39's so...

edit: the little gear is the pinion, I had a brain fart lmao

Yes, I regeared when I went to 35s and was very glad I did. I have the manual transmission and it was like getting a whole lower gear(in the transmission) going from 3.73 or whatever it came from stock to the 4.88s. It was not fun to drive in the mountains with the fasctory gearing. You'd have to slip the clutch way too much to get going on any kind of hill.

Edit: sorry I miss read your question, I'd recommend 4.88 like others on here have said.

Numerically higher gear ratios being appreciably weaker is pretty well debunked at this point on stuff short of a race application that struggles with heat management. Old internet lore isn’t always true.

That being said, getting a good setup and pattern is much more important on a 5.71 compared to a 4.10 gearset :)

That's not too far off base though. Not like you're at 1k over.

I KNOW you did not ask me, but I broke my rear ring and pinion on 39s. it was really kind of a fluke, but I went for the ECGS dana 60 upgrade on that. its pretty nice I can't complain.

Guys on 37s.... are you balancing with regular stick-on wheel weights or balancing beads or a combination of both?

This VVVV. Even on 5.71s, ZUK has proven they are no more "weak" than another lower gear ratio set.

Just threw beads in mine and they run super smooth actually. Might have just got lucky though as I'm running beadlocks too which don't always balance nice

    How did you like them?
I'm trying to decide between the geolander g003 and toyo mt's, curious which one you'd prefer.

I’m literally try to decide on the same two tires right now. I’ve had excellent experiences with the Toyo’s but they’re like 84#’s compared to the 76#’s on the geolandars. Moving into 37’s has me prioritizing weights a little more these days then a bullet proof tire.
