Hope they get and keep you squared away brother.

Everyone wants to be retired until you are....Dont rush it. I retired in my mid 20's... It wasnt hard.... Just join the military, go overseas, get injured, spend months in and out of hospitals having seizures due to brain trauma, then they tell you your being medboarded, try to fight it, lose, and your retired.. Piece of cake o_O :D

Now at 32 i miss working, havent had seizures in around 7 years or so but im still told i shouldnt work , they let me drive again after 6 years but still not letting me work. miss the paychecks, miss a steady job to do. But i do love fishing 2 or 3 times a week and spending time with my kids. Missed both their births and now i dont have to worry about missing much else. Except a decent paycheck

Retirement is only good if you can afford to do things regularly. Otherwise boredom takes over quick. Plan ahead and enjoy the time having a job to do that isnt washing dishes and cleaning house.

    Just my 2 cents.

Brother, I'm sorry for what you've gone through. I hope you know how much many of us appreciate your willingness to go into harm's way and the sacrifices you made for all of us. I hope I don't come off as gripping about my job. I really love what I do, but as I get older and older it simply becomes more and more difficult. I don't know if I'll ever fully retire. I'm already preparing for a 2nd career, which will be of a part-time nature, and I'll have a little more control over my schedule.

    I'm with you there.

2 1/2 more for me. Two career pensions (Carpenters Union/26 years, Teacher's Federation/20 years), Canada Pension Plan, and my own pension plan will cover my ass in green.

    Let's go places!

My buddy who owns a large Home Hardware has offered me the job of Building Supplies/Lumber Yard Manager when I retire. Not sure if I want another full time job.

Thank you, but no need to be sorry for me brother, im not. Serving was one of the greatest decisions i ever made despite the outcome. Learned a lot and had some great experiences. I dont look back with regret at all. Too many vets out there feeling sorry for themselves when they should be holding their head high. Wounds are badges of honor, i wear mine proudly. This is a great country despite some of the past and current affairs going on, we share more rights and privileges than most give us credit for. Im proud to have help do my part.

Just thought id share a little, people dont often understand that working is a blessing, its healthy, and keeps you busy. I miss working and thought id encourage people to enjoy it while they can..... NOW.... If i had enough money to stay busy traveling, buy a boat that could fit my family of 4, and fish the entire country when i got ready id feel a bit differently about missing work im sure LMAO

I disagree with this post. I fully commend you for serving so please do not think I'm bashing what you went through, however, working for a paycheck sucks. There are plenty of things to do with your time that would help others out and give someone purpose in life. Making some a**hole in a corner office rich by you busting your butt is not one of them.

Everyone values freedom, and if you have to work to pay bills, that is not freedom. Hence my jealousy of OP's situation.

Retired at 62 after 28 years Navy enlisted and another 19 working with the Navy as a Gov't contractor, 71 now and loving my life...but I loved it while I was working for a paycheck too...no regrets...I always felt free since I knew the paychecks were simply a way to doing what I wanted to at the end.

I do love the OP's "get up and" go attitude, I need to cultivate some of that!

I get it bud. It's not 11am yet but I'm on my 3rd beer, listening to country rock, and waxing my truck. I'm free as it gets in that respect...

But that job you got gives you purpose and keeps you busy... Holler at me 5years after you retire when you're buying beer with quarters and sitting home bored cause you can't afford gas money LOL.

All I'm saying is plan ahead for retirement and enjoy having a purpose, feeling needed. When it's over you may miss it.

I thought id love not working... But years later i miss it a lot.

This thread went way way off topic, OP i apologize bro. I'll degress and read along.

I agree. Retired at 53. Was debt free 10 years before that. Lived on one salary. we saved the other. Now retirement is just fun.

I think i'm with you on that regards. I like to do something -- keep moving -- be productive.

Sometimes, I just want to do exactly what you say, go drink some beers and wax my truck, but I think I can only do that for so long before I get bored.

I'd say this is a good news story. I hope mine has the same issues before the ncw expires along with a engine fail and transmission drop.

My retirement dream was always to be the guy sweeping garbage at Disneyland. My family and I are big Disney fans. I would just love to be able to walk around the park, watch other people make memories and have fun.

Problem now is Disney would probably make you train your replacement and then boot you.

image.jpg image.jpg Retired at 52 after 31 years in law enforcement. Now at 55 I still miss it, but with today's climate I guess I'm glad I'm out. I agree with the other comments in that you have to have other interests to stay healthy. I'm happy and feel fortunate that I made through unscathed and without any long term injuries. Now I have time to play with these two :) makes it all worth it
