Howdy. I posted earlier looking for reference pics of a distributor type 2RZ/3RZ but didn't get any responses so I'm trying again another way. I'm putting a 3RZ into my dad's old '85 4x4 Std Cab and am about ready to put the engine in, but I need to replace some hoses before they become difficult to access. The FSM and Toyota parts websites aren't much help. Whoever removed this engine cut a few hoses and finding the part numbers is proving difficult. Here is what I could really use some help with:

    1. The metal water pipe that winds its way around the block (the water bypass pipe??) - is it necessary? It looks like if I removed it, it would save me a bunch of time trying to locate the hoses associated with it. The newer 2RZ/3RZs seem to have ditched it...
    2. In the picture - does anyone have part numbers for the Red (#1), Blue (#2) and Green (#3) hoses shown? I'm assuming #3 (Green) is the discharge to the heater core, #2 (Blue) is the return from the heater core.

    3. The yellow vacuum lines (labeled Yellow 4 & 5) - Where do these go?
    4. Where does this vacuum line go in Pic #2?
    5. Does anyone have a part # for the cut hose shown in Pic #3?

I know these questions seem stupid/easy, but trying to put a Tacoma engine in an '85 pickup without a fully hooked up engine to reference is proving difficult. Thanks for any help you can provide. I have searched these forums and even gone to a Toyota parts dealer and can't seem to find answers. IMG_4998.jpgIMG_4997.jpgIMG_4995.jpg

I've got a newer 3RZ so I can't help much but here's what my vacuum lines look like.

The only thing I know for certain is the red hose in the second picture. That connects to a hard line that is bolted to the top of my radiator that then comes over and plugs into another rubber line that goes to the top portion of the air cleaner box. I don't have a distributor style 3rz I've got the twin coil pack but I have that water bypass pipe... tomorrow when I get a chance I'll look to see exactly what its routed to but I think it goes to the heater core in the cab

When I look tomorrow (if no one else has answered your questions) I'll see if my vacuum lines are similar to yours and tell you how its routed

I went through all my pics of my engine when I did the cylinder head, but mine is newer and doesn't have like any of the hoses you're trying to identify in your pictures.
Sorry I couldn't be more help. Hope you can get it narrowed down.

Maybe @Speedytech7 @BartMaster1234 have some input?

I appreciate the help so far. Here is what I (think I) know: The distributor type 3RZ was only made in 1995.5-1996 before they switched over to the coil packs. My 3RZ is a JDM, and didn't come with any of the emissions stuff like an EGR, etc., and therefore has all of the vacuum lines on the throttle body capped off, so obviously there are some differences compared to USA models. What is driving me nuts is that metal water pipe...no one else seems to have it, but it is on every Japanese import 3RZ I see for sale. This makes me think that I may not even need it. If I don't need it, then the coolant flow is super simple: from the back of the cylinder head to the heater core, and from the heater core to the inlet pipe next to the thermostat. But the rational person in me says that the Toyota engineers wouldn't have put that pipe there if it wasn't necessary...

Is the pipe you speak of on the bottom right here? If so, I think it might be bypass for when the thermostat is closed, but that is mostly a guess.

Got a better pic of this pipe, the only one I know of is on the drivers side of the engine and runs around back of the engine to provide coolant for the heater and for the throttle body heater

After staring at it for a while, I think you are correct. I didn't even think about that - it is probably the bypass for when the thermostat is closed...That being said, it looks like it will probably be best to keep it and somehow try and find somewhat similar hoses to replace the cut ones. Back to square one...

Hey all - quick update...I bought a 5/8" and 1/2" ID silicone water hose and just made the hoses myself. I think the issue was that the engine was a JDM import (non-EGR), from a T100 and had some weird hose configuration that the US versions didn't have. So, instead of beating my head against the wall trying to find a matching Toyota part number, I just cut hose to length and got some billet barbed nipple connectors to make it all match up. I'm waiting on a few parts, and then the engine should go in soon. Thanks for the help so far.

As far as the vacuum lines go, thanks to your pictures and some internet sleuthing, I've got them about 95% figured out.

    Have a great holiday season.

    Gabe
