So I’ve been chasing this oil leak under my distributor and I found this metal plate under it and of course I didn’t know what it was so I loosened it up then I found out it was the timing chain tensioner. I tightened it back up and drove it around and when I came back there was oil everywhere. So I found the cause of my oil leak. Can I just take out the tensioner and replace it or so I have to take off the valve cover and timing cover ???

I bought T tensioner during big job
    Zero slack in T chain…..so
    I returned the tensioner

    Just making sure paiamaui…..
You replaced the distributor O-ring in search of your oil leak?
During that ‘big job’ i eluded too, every gasket replaced including h20/oil pumps
    After 1st test drive…..
had fresh oil seeping from high up on passenger side of block
    After distributor O-ring RR’d

Pretty good vid, but he's got it tore open. I wanna know if I can just take off the two nuts securing the chain tensioner, clean up the mating surfaces, install a new gasket, and either replace or reuse the tensioner without getting into the head or timing cover.
