    Hi guys. I'm toying with the idea of doing some pretty serious engine modification to my 2TR, such as port/polish head, get a custom grind from comp cams, oversize valves and maybe increasing the bore if getting oversize pistons machined isn't stupid money. I know "I can get more power easier with a V6", but I like my truck and don't feel that it's worth trading my truck for one. Plus a high power 2TR is pretty unique, at least to me. Anyone have experience with this kind of modification on these trucks?

    I want to stay N/A for now, with eventual plans to boost it. Honestly I'm just curious to see what this engine is capable of.

    I'm sure that it's plenty capable NA. It all depends on how deep your pockets are. Give any engine more air and fuel and itll make more power. Idk if anyone has modded these engines, but it would be good. Stock heads might only be so capable tho.

    LCE header, URD fuel pump upgrade, MAF calibrator already done. Going to fab up a CAI since I think 300-400 dollars for a piece of bent exhaust tubing with a couple ports on it is just straight retarded. And a short throw as of a few days ago. I've been in contact with a machine shop and it seems relatively cheap to get the head worked over, although they're not sure about oversized valves. I'm almost terrified to call comp cams to get an estimate from them, but I'll do it tomorrow. Also going to have a local shop bend me a test pipe and a 2.5" cat back. Need to find a shop in Pittsburgh that will tune a Toyota too, which should be fun.

    If the valves are the same dimensions between the 2TR and the 1GR, then SuperTech has them. You could even check right now, and they might have your engine's valves listed. I have not looked.

    For the 1GR, over-sized is the normal option. Regular sized is what they consider "custom." I have their valves in my stroker engine's heads.

    Ferrea also makes valves for the 1GR. You can check there as well. They offer the stock size, but they are still more expensive than the Super Tech brand.

    By the way, the bucket shims for the 2AZ-FE are the exact same as in the 1GR. I had to use one from one of my heads, to have the proper valve lash on the 2AZ head. By this information, it makes me feel like the valves, buckets, or more might also be the same for your engine... Possibly.

    It would have to be just subtle enough to not cause valve to piston interference under the various phase angles of the VVT actuation.

    Either that or go the much more involved route of locking out VVT actuation, and have aggressive cams. Like me. :D
