2TR misfire on start up

    You may be able to pressurize the coolant system and unbolt the throttle body and leave some white rags under it overnight. Also look for pinky chalky shit on the motor, that's a coolant leak. It's common on these for the heater bypass tube under the intake manifold to crack and leak so check that also.

    Sounds like a very similar issue for sure! Are you having problems keeping coolant in the truck?

    That's a good idea! I'm going to give that a try in and around the throttle body.

    I don't see any obvious signs of coolant leaks externally!

    So, I found the issue!

    BHG. Hairline cracks between each cylinder. Cylinder 1 was flooding with coolant when the truck was off (reason for the misfire).

    Had the head machined today, .005" twist in the head, so they skimmed it.

    Upper chain guides were measuring 1.8mm wear, replacement spec is 2mm, going to throw new chains and guides on it while I have it apart.

    Cylinder walls look immaculate, compression test was 165-170psi across all 4 cylinders. I am impressed for the mileage and abuse this engine has had.
