First off I know there has been other threads that are similar but it seems like every answer is “just supercharge the 4 liter” whether you all say it’s worth it or not I don’t care I just want to know what it would take and then I’ll be the judge of whether it is or not. Right now I drive an 01 tundra with the 4.7 love the truck and engine but I can’t help but wonder what it would be like with a manual. The second gen Tacoma’s seem to be pretty similar to the first gen tundras. it seems to me as if it shouldn’t be that complicated to swap a 4.0 from a taco and drop a 4.7 in it as 4runners had that engine too. I’m no master mechanic but I have some know how and friends with plenty of knowledge. what could it possibly take to fit a 2uz in a Tacoma with a 6 speed manual? An adapter for the engine and transmission? ECU programming to make it run with a manual? Fabricating new motor mounts? it seems to me like those three things would be the hardest things to overcome. Again this might all sound crazy but I have seen 4.7s in Tacomas but with autos and I’ve seen 4.7s hooked up to manuals before so it seems to me like it could be done. Basically I’m just looking for people with more knowledge than me to fill me in on if and/or what I’m missing here.

The 4.7 will bolt up to the 5 speed that was in the 4 cylinder Tacomas with some sort of adapter plate. I know of a guy doing a swap like that. I don't know about the 6 speed but I'd have to assume it is a similar situation.

Big question - which 4 cylinder 5 speed? I'm looking for that answer as well because I can't find anything that'll bolt ( adapter wise ) to an R155F transmission..... AND that trans belongs onto the 2TR-FE...

We make a stock Toyota kit for that. 2UZ motor to H151F transmission. Includes all the bell housing, clutch, bearings, etc...

I have a fabricator buddy who’s done the ls swap to his Jeep, he’s always hunting down an electrical issue or some other problem

Is it a lot better and easy to swap with 2jz setup?

My opinion....2jz too much work. 2uz with bolt on transmission....much simpler. Are you trying to drift the taco or just get more torque?
