My was at the dealer for about three days, cause it was very difficult for them to diagnose the problem.

I'm worried about that, because it seems like a kind of weird problem. Haven't found much on TacomaWorld, or the internet in general, about this error message, except for your post.

Dealer called and said that it was a damaged temperature gauge on the front differential. Said it was reading 390 degrees and was making the Taco throw codes. Also said it was caused by offroading, which it may have been because when I was looking at my truck I noticed a pretty big dent on the front skid plate. Don't think I did that this weekend when I was out at my deer lease, but must have some other time. Anyways, since they said it was caused by offroading, I have to pay for it - $403.80. Thanks for your help OP.

Hey everybody, I had this error come up when ironically, I was testing my 4wd to make sure everything was still working.

Had to roll back a foot or two to get it to engage 4hi... okay no problem. Then I tried 4lo and the lights was blinking and it was beeping at me. Tried to roll... kept blinking. Put it in gear and it was definitely in low range. Tried to switch to 4hi and it gave me the error.

After 20 minutes of frantic troubleshooting, I got everything to behave by shutting everything off and putting the switch in 2lo, switching the ignition on, and cycling back through all the way to 2hi.

Sounds like my actuators were stuck. I drove it for about half a mile in 4hi to work the system and switched back and forth a few more times to be safe.

TL;DR version- activate 4wd every once in a while to make sure everything works.
