Been raining pretty hard here early this morning. Took off for work and came around a bend on the 27 cruising north bound (Topanga Canyon Blvd/Santa Maria) and came to a near stop to let a car coming out of its driveway inbound on to the other lane. I had the auto lsd engaged, so when I pressed on the gas, I saw a quick yellow light flash, no slippage whatsoever, and I took off like I was riding a modified 2 stroke bike. Dang sweet feeling. I believe I had auto lsd on the ‘12 OR. I had Atrac. I never cared about auto lsd. I don’t ever remember engaging it. Like down hill assist. I never pressed that button. I never had a need for it.

Auto LSD kicks butt in 2WD. Looking forward to some wheeling to see what others have experienced in 4LO.

    Enjoying the ‘18.

I'll just toss this to the Atkinson's cycle which produces Honda Civic amount of torque.

I thought the 3.5 had almost same torque as 4.0? Anyway, what happens if you leave Auto LSD on all the time??

I experienced the best part of 2WD/auto lsd yesterday when it was still raining. I stopped at a freeway on ramp at a red light with a slight up hill climb. 740 miles was close enough to a 1,000 so I gave the 3.5 a bit of fuel/air. Next thing I knew, I’m hearing hardcore squealing and got sideways like John Force doing a long burnout. Some sweet magic is definitely happening back there because my previous OR’s without 4H would just sit there and spin the tire.

No need to drive it easy for the first thousand miles. Modern engines have extremely fine tolerances and are generally broken in during the first 5 mins of running or the first heat cycle. It's likely your engine is "broken in" before it even gets off the truck upon delivery to the dealer.

Just remember to turn OFF auto LSD and traction control if you're trying to have fun and do donuts :)

Its not a real LSD it uses the ABS system to force power away from slipping wheel, which is fine, but dangerous for messing around. If you're in the middle of a power slide and it does that it can really put strain on your diff....even blow it out.

Just need to remember what it is and how it works, its NOT for hooning.

“The AUTO LSD system aids traction by using the traction control system to control engine performance and braking when one of the rear wheels begins to spin.

The system should be used only when one of the rear wheels spinning occurs in a ditch or rough surface.”

    That’s a big 10-4 on the recklessness.

Driving up the mountain is where I’ve been using it. Auto lsd gets engaged as sometimes I have to pull over to the side for large vehicles. Drive wheel on dirt and always slips. Works perfect to get back onto the road.

    Truth.

When I did a rebuild on my race car, I did a cylinder leakage test immediately after reassembly, before running the engine, and saw 7-9% cylinder leakage.

Did a couple low/medium RPM pulls at low throttle, with long engine braking/vacuum periods, followed by a single WOT, near redline, pull. Less than 2 miles driving.

Got home, checked again, and cylinder leakage was between 1-3%.

The rings don’t take long to seat

    I believe the 3.5 has 265 ft/lbs @ 4600 rpm vs 266 ft/lbs @4000 rpm.

1 ft/lb less torque at 600 higher rpm is worth the gain of 42 hp for me.

This system is getting better everyday. On the way down the hill just now I stopped at an infamous tight curv to check if the system worked in reverse. Best part, it was damp with dew. Nervous as heck, I pressed the auto lsd button. Put it in reverse and lightly feathered the throttle. WOW. Yellow light with squiggly line came on and absolutely no slippage whatsoever and rolled up until i stopped!!!!!

My three previous OR’s needed 4H to back up there. Awesome stuff. That has to be the ticket. Feathered throttle for optimum traction when in 4x4. Can’t wait to try it off road.

Dang, the SR5 is like having a Pre Runner and 4x4 all rolled into one Taco! The Auto LSD is awe-some. Conquered all the steep hills at Hungry Valley0 I did with the OR’s. It’s a wicked system in 4LO, TRAC off.

    2WD Auto LSD engaged.

So in your opinion, what would be the best scenario on a city environment to test or know how the autoLSD works on a 4x2???

I would like to understand how it works and in what situation it would be useful...

I saw a video once of a taco 4x2 with a wheel on a deep hole (basically on the air) and it was able to pull out with the lsd so I thought that is just off road and never even tried it...
