    Hey all,

I’m going on a ski trip to Colorado in my 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport 2WD. My understanding is it has a limited slip differential, which should help, but..will this be good enough? Any pointers? Sand bags in the back? Chains?

    Thanks!

Chains will most likely be required for a 2wd where conditions permit. I wouldn't go without them. Weight in the bed always helps too. As well as having good tires

    Still stock completely capable!
Agree with this 100%! Chains and weight in box. Also try to keep momentum on any inclines which goes without saying! Hopefully you have better tires than the stokers!

Some chains will work just fine. Even check out emergency chains. Easy to install.

So I’m just going to give you some advice, check out Colorado chain laws/requirements in inclement weather. If you cause an accident or impede traffic, you can get some hefty fines (think it was 600.00). Just FYI.

If you make this trip often enough or if you live in a place that gets any snowfall, investing in a set of winter tires may be worthwhile. $600 for winter tires is a hell of lot cheaper than an accident or worse an injury. My 1st car out of HS in MN was a modified Mustang GT which did great with a set of Blizzaks and sandbags in trunk and that car had very little ground clearance. Tires make all the difference in the world.

Cotrip.org. Go to the interactive map and look at road conditions.

right now with the storm we are getting, many of the mountain passes have chain/traction laws in effect tonight and over the next few days.

With a 2WD pickup, I wouldn’t chance it without chains, since mountain weather can change quickly, heck with my TRD OR, there are chains in the back right now.
