    Does anyone have the wiring diagram so I can put in a switch to engauge 2wd low, so i can back up a heavy load? I have 255/75/17s on my truck and there just a little to tall for the 3.73 gears. I would love to regear the truck but If I can flip a switch instead that would be much easier.

    Never seen it done on a 2nd gen. You basically need to put a switch inline with the wire that tells the hubs to lock.

    If the switch is open, the hubs don't lock and you are effectively in 2wd. The front drivetrain is still spinning but there is no power getting to the wheels.

    I've been wanting to do this also, but it looks a bit involved. I don't think the transfer case will shift into low range until it sees that the front diff is engaged. Maybe someone knows for sure, but it seems like there is a position sensor for the front diff actuator.

    What is the advantage to having the hubs locked and not driving ?

    Am I just dumb ? haha

    Yeah I think the 2nd gen system is a bit more complicated so it would probably be a lot of work.

    The OP basically wants the low gear ratio without the dissadvantages of being in 4wd (binding and breaking parts when turning on pavement.)

    What about wiring a switch to cut power to the front diff actuator and also send a signal to the 4wd computer showing that the front diff is engaged? There may also be a specific sequence of events that the 4wd computer is looking for also?

    Manual hubs would take care of the problem. Has anyone seen it done on a second gen?

    It's obvious that the computer knows what position the front diff actuator is in. The question is does it care? It will set off alarms if you try and shift the transfer case above 50 mph, and it won't shift into 4lo unless the clutch is pressed in, seems like maybe it would refuse to go into low range if the front axle was not engaged. Who wants to be the guinea pig?

    :popcorn: I would love to do this. I've pulled my front driveshaft and put it in 4lo. It was fun but it would be very useful at the boat ramp and putting the boat away.

    I miss having a lever shift transfer case and manual hubs. If you want 2lo, you just shift the case into 4lo and don't bother getting out to lock the hubs. Things were simpler with my old 1986 Toyota! :(

    No, that's quite all right! I spend most of my time on the highway with this truck, and I love setting the cruise on 75 and cranking the AC. The 1986 had 95hp, no AC and it topped out at 74MPH with 31 inch tires! But it did have 2lo for backing up steep driveways.:D
