Or just completely bypass the 4wd ecu and wire everything direct and keep it stupid simple but then we wouldn't have our pretty dash lights.

I know an electrical engineer and I'll pass it along to him. We'll just have to find a donor truck to screw around with :spy:

It would be easy enough to wire a switch to disable the ADD and still be able to shift the tcase... However your talking about a good bit of time staring at the wiring diagram to figure it out.

Pay me by the hour and I'll give it a go for ya... :D

I have done it. 2010 4x4 Reg Cab. It is not pretty. Much splicing of wires to plug on top of glove box that goes to 4wd computer. Mine works allow normal shift to 4lo with dash switch. Then with 2 pole double throw switch take control of ADD from computer and route it to 12 volt supply with another 2 pole double throw momentary switch. Turn switch up for a second to unlock ADD, turn down to lock back. 4wd computer will get bent out of shape if you forget to return control (flash lights on dash). Put switch on dash back to 4lo, use other switch to return control and all is well. Needed this because I one of these people that drag an rv (truck camper on trailer) around and need to put in tight places.

None needed... That is if you know how to read the diagram correctly. Besides I've already figured out how to rewired half the 4wd system anyways for my truck.

OK. I thought I made it clear as to why you can't just put a lever on the Tacoma case but I guess not so I'll try it again.

The Tacoma case has ONE shift rail that shits the t case into 4wd and 4wd lo. It does this by using an electronic actuator at the rear of the case.
It's not just a simple thing of disabling the front add on these trucks either to get into 2lo. This is why.
By disabling the front add your now telling the cpu it's not safe to go into 4wd which you need first in this t case before it goes into 4lo. You cannot by pass 4wd in this case to get into 2wd lo like you can the FJ case when you use twin sticks. The front output shaft will ALWAYS spin when your t case is in lo with the '05+ Tacoma case.

Here is a picture of the actuator after it has been removed from the case. Now this actuator has an oring to stop oil from coming out of the back of the t case and to keep dirt out as well. Once you remove this actuator, your case is prone to leak and dirt can get into it really easy.
    DSC03280800x600-1_b75c935a1e84f881a603c3e7d2902917e0c8bbc5.jpg

Here is the single shift rod in this case after the actuator has been removed. Notice that there is now nothing that can stop oil from leaving and dirt from entering the case. Not good.
    DSC04642640x480_25c8050c9e24636db272a178b3e042b10ab2f7a6.jpg
    DSC04856640x480_3e2890c3fd51b6ca6d9aeb09184485ee3c4c7d26.jpg
    DSC04855640x480_54fe908976df603af3bc89083b144dc0ceb13855.jpg

Now on a manually shifted case you can look down into the top of it and there will be two shift rails. On this Tacoma case when you look into the top of it all you see is the planetary gear.
    DSC04644640x480_a871ec0d41e655f4ad19e41ae0bce2f0662ebac2.jpg

On a manually shifted case like the FJ case this is what you see. Two shift rails with little feet for the shifter handle to go into.
    DSC04618640x480_8ae9a5b2c774c4625f936a0305da5c65e76bc7b5.jpg

The two case's are just about identical with the exception of how they are shifted and where the position sensors are. The Tacoma case is on the left and the FJ case is on the right.
    DSC04641640x480_a5958f98b87488766584158d946b20fdde6f1eef.jpg

So there you have it. I hope that cleared it up for you.

Thanks for clearing that up. I remember seeing a few of those pics but I thought it was on the old rst website so I couldn't refer to it.

The other way to get a 2wd lo speed is to add a crawl box to it. With a crawl box depending on which gear set you get you can have a 2.28 2wd lo or a 4.70 2wd low. Plus you get the compound lo's when you engage your transfer case. Sweet deal.:D
