Sand ladders are a great tool. I guess y’all call them rescue boards.
Did a lot of exploring up in the Paria River Sand Hills in Utah. Even drove a 2wd BMW into White Pockets after a day of rain had packed the sand.
You got solid advice here. PSI lowered, rescue tools and throttle awareness.
I just got a 2022 SR5 and it will be on the sand once broken in.

We always went in the fall after all the urchins are back in school and after 30 miles south you had the beach to yourself. My Jeep rusted pretty good, my Xterra and Frontier never did. At somewhere around the 40 mile mark is Lillians Wreck back up in the dunes, basically all is left is the deck planks of a Confederate blockade runner from the civil war (as it was told to me by Billy Sandifer a Padre Island fishing guide since passed on for a few years).

We used to throw a tent in the back and leave on a Friday night after work and spend a long weekend of debauchery on the beach, fishing, drinking, shelling and what ever else sounded good. Find a hotel room the last night to clean up and drive back to Dallas the next morning stopping at Mi Tierra's in San Antonio on the way home for breakfast. This was before respectability ever entered into the picture.

I'm in NE FL as well. 2wd is fine for most beaches here; like others have said, stay on hard packed, keep your speed up, but be steady on the throttle and don't try to keep going if it starts to dig.
100% avoid the beaches that are 4x4 only because they mean it! (porpoise point/vilano beach in st augustine has had me stuck in 2wd very easily)
Definitely be on the lookout for a 4wd, you won't regret the upgrade if you can afford it.

Think it’s been pretty well said here, but if your new to it or the area, spend some time walking the beaches and get accustomed to identifying signs of places to avoid. Had a tricked out 2006 wrangler rubicon when I moved to Sonora Mexico. Got embarrassingly buried on beaches several times. Learned what to avoid and went everywhere for the next 2 years in a 2wd hilux.

Put you some mud tires on the just the back wheels if your cool enough to pull it off. That will help some. I was able to do it no problem in my glory days but not any more lol

The ground clearance and large sidewall tires alone will allow you go more places than a Prius can go. The only advantages of 4WD are getting extra traction so you can accelerate on slippery surfaces (mud, snow, sand, rocks) and the rare occasion when one or two wheels are off the ground.

Stay off the beach with the truck, buy an old used Wrangler and take the top off.

    Just remember folks:
Along with Hawaii, Florida beaches throughout the State are the most active for sea turtle egg laying. At Smathers, Higgs and other beaches in Key West, several species of sea turtles are busy laying eggs from March through October.
All Florida beaches are potential nesting sites, but the greatest concentration of loggerhead nesting turtles lies on the east coast between the Canaveral National Seashore (Titusville) and Fort Lauderdale
The majority of nesting in Florida occurs between May 1stand October 31st. About 90% of all sea turtle nesting in the United States takes place on Florida's beaches, which means it is critical that residents and visitors alike do their part to ensure that sea turtles have a safe and successful nesting season.

Let's all be good stewards of the environment and wildlife.

why?? are Tacoma's incapable of being on the beach?? there's been plenty of wranglers that have been stuck
while 4wd can go abit further then 2wd alot has to do with the skill or lack of skill of the driver. of course, everyone is bound to get stuck at some point and its a matter of being prepared for that

I live in SE Florida. Have done hard packed dirt, gravel, grass with no problem. I would go on a beach like Daytona where it's hard packed sand, but I'd be hesitant to try the soft stuff. This is about my average:

That wasn't the point at all. I'm not worried about anyone getting their truck (or Jeep) stuck in sand. Though it would take a lot more to get my Rubi stuck than my Tacoma...
Saltwater, and a truck brand notorious for rusting into nothing. Why not buy a toy for that and save your DD?

Sounds like you may be near me, Saint Augustine. I took my DCLB out on the beach and was in 2wd most of the time.

I only switch to 4wd just to use it for a few minutes, but did not really need it at all because there will be tracks where everyone is driving.

Yes people in 2wd trucks do get stuck, but I think it's usually due to being careless.

I'd say go with another friend who has 4wd the first few times in case you do get stuck.

If I'm not mistaken as soon as I turn my traction control off the Auto LSD light comes on. Unless I'm doing something wrong :)
