Taking a trip out to Colorado in my 99 Prerunner, rear wheel drive, good clearance, decent 31 inch offroad tires, and some experience offroading. Wanted to know if yall know of some slightly more mellow offroad/overland trails out there. Looked into Alpine Loop Trail, can't figure out for sure if it's possible with my truck. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

In my opinion, as long as it's dry you'd have no problem. Maybe even if it was wet, though there are some spots. The Mineral Creek (and Poughkeepsie Gulch, which I think is closed right now due to slide anyway) legs you would want to avoid, but both Cinnamon and Engineer from Lake City to Silverton, or California/Hurricane/Corkscrew should all be doable without 4WD. I usually only end up engaging it for engine braking purposes.

Probably could but due to the length of the loop I personally wouldn't have done it in a 2wd. There are some spots that could be tricky.

Stony pass is barely open, water is running high all around the Alpine Loop as we still have deep snow on the sides. Black Bear and Bolam are still closed. Snow is 4'-8' along some of the slide paths.

The trails used to be easier when the traffic was Jeeps and pickups. Now its mostly ATV's, so full of short whoops and very slow going for longer pickups. I usually only travel these by moto in the Summer (skis in the Winter) and I have a house in Silverton.
