I have the 4X4 now, but I ran 2wd up to now. Generally, the only people I see spinning at the ramp are those who are heavy footed. Take it easy and just about any truck will pull the boat up the ramp as long as it is paved and not ICY!

Getting down the road with a 4 cylinder light truck and 5,000 lbs behind you might be a bigger issue!

true, but at 5,000 lbs, trailer brakes are not optional!:)

Never had an issue with mine even on a steep, broken boat ramp. I don't have 4x4 or a locker. My boat is 3000 lbs

I pull my 18x8' flats boat around 2500ish without an issue. I have the factory lsd which helps a lot. 5k would be right around the limit but you just have to feather it and you shouldnt have a problem.
