Will do. My plan is to buy a beater car while I tear into my truck or at least pay somebody to tear into it. I'm no mechanic, but very good with my hands. I can fix anything on my truck except engine / transmission basically. Mainly due to no workspace & lack of tools. Engine hoist, etc.

Is there anyway to avoid the J shifter 4x4 cutout on the interior & use the dial type vacuum switch regularly OEM to switch to 4x4?

Then why not a Tacoma tranny & T-Case from the start?

well you use a tacoma transmission but the FJ tcase . to use the tacoma tcase would require alot more money with having to find a ecu and wiring to make it all work . the reson we use FJ tcase is the are stronger and no electronis involed plus when you put the tcase in to 4lo and 4hi you know its in . the tacoma tcase has issues with the motor that does it for you

You make perfect sense. I concluded that after I asked the question, but it all makes sense now. Thank you!! When I have the balls to make the move I'll let you know if I have any questions!

It's doable. You need the 4WD ECU, the wiring harness (or make your own), all the switches. If you want it to look stock then you need the stock switch and the radio/dash bezel to house the switch.

There are ways around that too. I actually used a stock Tacoma t-case and made my own electrical circuit to control the t-case. It was a major pain in the ass and I'm actually going to be swapping out to an FJ case soon.
