if it works for you great. The issue I have with 2wd in a truck is the weight distribution puts so little weight on the drive wheels that in any compromised traction situation the power goes to the wheels with the worst traction. snow, ice, mud, dirt your ability to go is severely curtailed. I've been stuck and had people stuck in my driveway with 2wd trucks on more than one occasion. Not once in my 4wd vehicles.

2WD Tacoma gang here, and congrats on your new truck! You’re going to love it. Like you, I also live in Florida, and honestly, when purchasing my Tacoma, 4WD wasn’t even a thought for me as I have always used my trucks for on road driving only and for hauling. The three main things I wanted were the predator steps, the premium pearl paint job, and the long bed for the extra space. The savings I had left over from not getting the 4WD also allowed me to purchase a few extra goodies for the truck I normally would have passed on as well. Besides, I’m not purchasing that gorgeous paint job and taking it on the trails to get ruined. The only regret I have is not getting the factory LEDs, but I plan on getting those done soon.

As long as you’re happy with it, that’s all that matters, and fuck what anyone else says. You are going to be thankful that you didn’t buy something you didn’t need due to peer pressure and stretching yourself thin on your finances unnecessarily. You sound like a smart young man who makes responsible life decisions, good on you! Life is too short to stress about what internet keyboard warriors have to say, anyways

Turn it around and make fun of them for having to go do 4wd circles in parking lots every so often just to make sure that front drive train doesn't seize up because they never actually use it. I clown my 4Runner friend all the time - he's had the thing 5+ years and never used 4wd, but he gave me all kinda shit for going 2wd. People love to see other people make bad financial decisions, especially if they've already taken the dive.

There's a lot of decked out, overland gear to the gills 4wd Tacos here in Austin. There's a guy in my hood that hauls his rack with a tent and fuel canisters, trac boards, farm jack, stadium lighting, and the whole 9 back and forth to work every day. It's a long drive in any direction if they want to really make use of all that gear. I've had a 4x4 Toy truck ('87) and it was always a whole ass drive to go somewhere to actually put it to use. If I lived in somewhere like Utah, I might feel differently.

Most 2wd vehicle will get stuck in soft dirt like this at some point. Maybe a few 4wd might get stuck too. It doesn’t matter if it’s a ford, Chevy, Dodge, Nissan, Toyota, etc, you will get stuck once in a while.

Buy the TRD 4x4 stickers from Etsy and apply them on each side of the truck bed. You will find that the 2WD performs about the same as a 4WD after the stickers are installed.

When you need to tow more than a Tundra is rated to tow you put up with the other options unfortunately

If I lived where it never snowed, I'd have a 2wd as well. I think it's near impossible to even find a 2wd where I am.

I drive a Pre-Runner and live in MN. Also have a Chevy K1500 (4x4). I don’t off-road or wheel with my trucks, I have a motorcycle and mountain bike for that. I think trucks are just too expensive and too heavy to veer too far off forest/service roads. I have yet to ever come across a situation where I needed 4x4. Decent AT tires and sand bags get me by through the snow, and the 4x4 isn’t going to help when it’s icy. Maintenance on the 2 wheel drives is SO much easier and cheaper, and lots more room under the truck for repairs, just my 2 cents. I’m shopping for a Tundra and I’m bummed that most of the trucks I’m seeing are 4x4.

Another member of the Florida 4x2 crowd here. 99% pavement, 1% grass, dirt, and hard packed gravel. Never had an issue or go anywhere that auto LSD can't get me out of. I know to stay off the beach.

Badass truck, sir. MGM is such a great color, goes well with most anything. I’m thinking of doing the TRD pro wheels for mine myself, I think it would accentuate the pearl white well.

Thanks :hattip: I have an ARE CX series topper on order that's due to leave the factory June 6 according to my local dealer. That should be my finishing touch! It will work better for me than the hard tonneau. Also I'm disappointed with Bakflip. The finish is pealing off the cover in multiple spots after only 2 years. I expected more after what I paid for that darn thing lol. So the tonneau goes when the topper arrives :)
