    A 2WD DCSB SR5 with a V6 is a very nice truck. Don't listen to the haters.
And silver is the best color!

I live in California so my truck sees snow, dirt, hills, etc, so 4x4 was a must for me. Like others have said, it’s better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Plus, you’ll have better resale value with a 4x4. If you need to make a thread to justify your 2wd purchase, that tells me that you kind of regret your decision. Haha

Their opinions might change. In 2001 I bought my first new truck; a 2WD drive Dodge Ram. I have relatives who chided, "You bought a DODGE?" Within a couple of years two of them bought Dodges for themselves. My 2WD served me well for 22 years and 333,000 miles in Midwest weather. The only reason I ordered a 4WD 2023 Taco is the Colorado weather @ 7,500 elevation where the grandkids live. There it is better to be safe than sorry at my old age. Ignore your "friends" and enjoy. Quite possibly they/re jealous!

Get what you like and love it.

edit: with the money saved, you can get a locker put in should you decide you need more traction

Exactly. Why even bother what others are thinking.

FWIW, traction control in the 3rd gen works very, very good off-road. It impressed me quite a few times already. Don’t think I’ll be getting a locker anymore.

When I’m driving down the highway I secretly judge anyone who does not have a 4x4 emblem on the back of their truck.

My first vehicle was 1990 mazda b2200 5spd, 2WD with a whopping 95 hp. I was 16 years old. Oh the fun we had…

Mr OP, you are way ahead of the game.:)

All I ever had was 2wd up till a few years ago. If it were not for having to pull the duck boat out of slippery ramps in winter, I would have got another 2wd if the tacoma had a limited slip option. All depends what your needs are, being your in Florida and not off roading, 2wd
should serve your needs as you described in your post just fine.good luck with your new truck and wish you many happy trouble free miles.

3rd gen taco got a “auto LSD” and a pretty good TC. 100 times better than an open diff.

OP, don’t sweat it. If you don’t need 4wd, there’s no point in paying for it to impress posers driving 4wd trucks around the mall.

I live in an area that sees snow 6 months out of the year and I have owned 3 2wd pickups. I got by, but I will likely never own anything with less than awd.

That said, I think there are a lot cliches that get repeated in these 2wd vs 4wd threads that have debatable logic.

    1) it’s better to have 4wd than not just in case you might need it.

Why pay for something you don’t need? 4wd is not free even if you resell it later. There are trade offs. For example, 4wd reduces your payload capacity. There are plenty of other solutions if you happen to get stuck. Why carry around 100’s of pounds of mechanical devices that maybe you might need once in a blue moon?

    2) 4wd has better resale value.

Someone please post some evidence of this.

    3) you don’t need 4wd if you your area is flat.

Mud, snow, deep sand, rock gardens, etc. exist in flat areas and a 2wd pickup will flounder.

    4) a 2wd truck is plenty capable.

A 2wd pickup is the worst automobile as far as traction and handling in slippery conditions. The only advantages it has off-road are ground clearance, ruggedness, and larger diameter tires. A front wheel drive or awd sedan or suv trumps it all other ways. 4wd (and awd) is a game changer.

This winter was my first with my new taco, we didn't get the snow we normally get, but I was impressed with how good the traction control handled it. Very happy I went with Toyota this time around. Dare I say I might be becoming a "fanboy" lol. It is just such a great all around package for what I need in a truck, and looks dang good to boot.

Not to put down Toyota’s traction control, but I have to say that most modern vehicles come with some form of traction control.

I’ve rarely ever see a rwd in Minnesota either unless it is a commercial truck, sports car, or a collectors car.

That’s good news. My ‘05 got stuck on my lawn. Granted, street tires (low mileage destinations) but still, the open diff spins the free tire and gums up the tread. I may buy traction boards but for now I’ve dumped a ton of wood chips on the mud pits and I’ve got an LSD and regear going.

With that said, I love my 2wd truck, it’s the Tacoma I always wanted.

Do a manual calculation. The indicated on the ODO is often 1+ mpg overstated. 2 mpg on my last tank.

2wd here even though I would’ve loved a 4wd I can’t justify the additional expense. I Never go off-roading and snow is very rare in my neck of the woods.
