I loved my 15 PreRunner and had no intentions on modding it until I joined TW. I had it for 2 years until I recently bought a 17 Off Road 4x4. Since you've already made it to TW, my advice would be to get the 4x4. Although the PreRunners are very good pickups but if you are debating, chances are you will regret not getting the 4x4; especially after joining TW.

My last 3 trucks were 4x4, (Rangers). I never locked the hubs unless I was acting like an idiot. This truck I saved my 5 grand and bought a prerunner. I have no regrets.

Better to have 4x4 and not need it, than need it and not have it.

There is not a huge difference in gas milage either, I've owned both a prerunner and currently own a 4x4. I think I lost 1 or 2 mpg when I switched over to the 4x4.

Your debate should really be between TRDOR or TRD sport. Lol

Too poor to list anything interesting.
Getting groceries has become quite dangerous, and the cubs have grown in height.

Yeah, why no 11? I think 11 is the best year. One year grill with no smog pump. I would move your search years to 07-11. Seems like 05-06 had some head gasket issues. Also you'd be very disappointed if you're comparing mpg with this truck. Go for the 4x4.

    I was gonna say this.

MPG? I don't know if its because gas is no longer $3 or if I'm older and just don't give a Rats A$$, but I never check my mpg. I have a truck that I like driving and I drive it like I want and fill the tank when it gets down to 3/4.

Nothing wrong with pre-runner. We have one and it's great. All depends on usage. I know a couple of people on my block that has pre-runners and love them though they've told me they have front axle envy.

The difference in mpgs are negligible, if you want a 4x4 then get the 4x4. Saving a few dollars at the pump isn't going to make you happy that you went with the 2wd if the 4x4 is what you really wanted.

I bought a 3rd gen 4Runner Limited 2WD, fully loaded and with a Supercharger. It was a fun truck but it was missing that one key feature every TOYOTA truck/SUV should have.

    Get the 4x4.

If it did have 4WD, I'd still be driving but sold it to my old man. Still kicking with the supercharger with almost 180k on it.

Limit your search to 2007-2010, 2005 and some 2006 have head gasket issues. If you go with a 4WD i would only buy one with TRD Off-Road. If you go with a 2WD, personally, I would only get a 2008 or 2007 Prerunner that has TRD Sport Package. 2009 and 2010 Prerunners do not have real limited slip rear differencials, they use the ABS to control rear wheel spin.

    So look for...

    2007-2010 4WD with TRD Off-Road package
    Or
2007-2008 2WD Prerunner with TRD Sport package

Hope that helps and welcome to the forum bro!

(MPG sucks no matter which one you get :) )

I too live in Tn. and have a 2WD. If you NEED a 4WD due to the type of driving you do, then get one. If you don't NEED a 4WD, get the 2. A 4WD requires more maintenance and there is just more to go wrong.

I have hauled, pulled, tugged, pushed and pulled with my 2WD and never had the need for the 4WD at all.

4wd, anyone who says different probably doesn't have a 4wd. Buy once and cry once. There isn't really much more maintenance with a 4wd. Change transfer case and front end oil every 30k big whoop.

I definitely don't "NEED" a 4wd and the price was right on my traction challenged PreRunner so I jumped on it. I do wish I had waited to find a 4wd, but I can tell you I'm not setting any MPG records or stashing bags of money due to less maintenance.
