I just bought this bad thing (TRD Sport 4x4) over the weekend and it’s my first truck so pretty new to these things. Got a lotta questions so if someone can put me on that’d be great.

I tried driving on 4H, 4L and 2W and didn’t feel much difference while driving.
But when I tried parking in 4H/4L, car kind of comes to a stop. Is this normal?

I’m sure AWD and 4WD is different, does 4WD actually drive faster than 2WD?

is there any speed limits when driving in 4L/4H?
I’m aware there’s a limit when engaging into 4H and need to put it in neutral for 4L, but once I start driving kinda curious if there is a speed limit.

Annnnd, they didn’t have the color I wanted so plan on getting that done...
Wrap it or paint it is the question.
Do wraps really eff up the original paint?

Do not use 4 wheel drive on dry pavement!

    Welcome

    - 4H you can 50 mph if you really needed too
    - 4L you're going to be going really slow 5mph maybe a little more

You shouldn't notice a difference when you park whether you're in 2WD, 4H or 4L. Also, you don't want to use 4WD on payment unless you're only going in a straight line. Turning on payment in 4WD will cause binding.

    So...

4X4 is not for pavement or hard-packed dirt surfaces - it is NOT the same as AWD or Full-Time 4WD. Your driveline will bind on turns and cause failure.

Crash Course in truck 4x4 vs. AWD:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUqSSD0rkbU

The manual will state maximum speeds for 4WD for the 3rd gen. For the 2nd gen, it was 55mph in 4HI. Can't imagine it's much different for 3rd.

    Ahhhh. I see.
Figured it’s different from driving an AWD.
But wonder why the truck feels like it’s slowing down or stopping when parking in 4W?

Well a couple of things. Don't use 4WD on pavement unless it's covered in snow. 4WD is for offroad.

4L is just that a lowered gear for when your really bogged or need extra traction. You're speed will be reduced in 4L.

    4H it's not.

For a beginner off roading IMO it's best to drive in 2WD (off road) until you need 4WD that way you know you can get out. If you're stuck in 4WD well then you're pretty much stuck.

Do some research on Youtube. Search 4 Wheel Driving for beginners.

    Above all have fun!!

If you are in 4WD on a hard surface (like pavement), your steering and driving will feel "restricted"... this is because you are binding up and stressing the driveline.

The cost of paint depends on the quality you want. If you want OEM quality paint, expect to pay at least $10K+

A full wrap runs around $3K. At least in my area.

not much input I can give, judging from the situation Tacomas are in, we'll very likely sell ours to Carvana in 3 years so why wrap it for the next guy? If you must, I would recommend XPEL I have that on my Miata, but I assume trucks look fine and aged with scratches, sorta like off-road badge of honor

I got a guy who does wraps on exotic cars, so he knows his shit and good quality wrap.
Because he’s my friend’s homie he’s quoting me 1.4K for the wrap.
I park outside and want a matte color...
How often do you gotta re-wrap and how do you take a “good” care of the wrap?

What are you looking to spend? And what color is it? what color do you want it? How good of shape is the paint in?

    Post up pics of it.

As far as wraps go, the wrap itself will not damage the paint. Quality vinyl made for wraps is actually easily removed several years later and the paint will look brand new. However, it is all but impossibly to wrap a truck without making small cuts in the paint while trimming with a razor knife. I have several years experience with vinyl wraps.

If you're wanting matte, don't paint it, for numerous reasons.. 1.4k for a wrap not bad, he may like you.

Don't bother getting it painted, you would spend a BOAT LOAD changing the color, you'd have to have it jammed out and underneath the hood done etc etc...

    Just wrap it.

Yeahh.. paint is too expensive and wraps look better for matte.
Plus if it fucks up not too costly to rewrap
