Not to hijack this thread (am about to anyways...) but why is there a 62 MPH cap in 4High? The gearing is there to go faster. I get that if you need to be in 4, you probably shouldn't be going faster than 60 or anywhere near that (blizzard conditions), but is there an actual reason why there is a speed cap? Anyone try and go faster? Does it automatically disengage?

Edit: not sure if its actually 62 MPH. I just remember it was low 60's.

Going fast in 4hi on loose trails is awesome. The better traction is very noticeable. Same with a snow storm.....

    Especially with my awesome Duratracs!

    There isn't.

You just have to temporarily reduce speed to 62mph (or under) before engaging 4H.

Hrmmm, I guess I may have read that wrong in the manual....but what you're saying is you just have to be below 62 to engage, then speed is just limited by gearing?

I've definitely gone faster than that in 4h, pretty sure that's just for engaging it

If you’re getting a matte wrap may I suggest a ceramic coating. It will help protect the wrap and dirt won’t stick into the porous matte finish.

All the wrap tips that I have seen say to clean off any waxes. Like a detergent wash. Wouldn't a ceramic coating be similar? I know it is very different than a wax, but wouldn't it prevent a good bond with the wrap?

think he meant coat the wrap.

i dont think you can ceramic coat a matte finish though.

    Ah!

I have read about the care needed with matte finish automotive paints. Nope! Not for me. A matte wrap would be pretty sweet. My intent would be to care for it less than the actual paint. Mainly use it as scratch protection and such. Plus, matte Cavalry Blue (Denim!) is pretty good looking, to me.

Definitely interesting. I think I would be in if I could get one for the price that the OP is talking about. That feels right. More than double that being the typical minimum, I'll just polish out pinstripes / scratches when I get around to it.

QS is a killer color for us.

I just haven't had a blue car since the parents PoS Malibu in HS.

Same. They are illegal in my state. We definitely get enough snow here every year to stop a Tacoma in its tracks, but traction boards and a shovel are the tools we use.

Once I did make a pair of DYI studded tires and took them out on a frozen lake. That was fun.

I saw this satin job a couple of years ago. Dealer tacked $9000 on the sticker for that wrap alone. If I could find this for under 2k, you bet your jimmies I would have done it.

I’m almost certain I’ve gone faster than 62mph in 4hi. I’ve never heard of a cap. In early winter Minnesota drivers tend to slow down in the snow but by mid winter many are driving at summer speeds regardless of snow and ice on the freeway. I don’t generally use 4hi until it’s needed to stop excessive wheel spin and fishtailing.

Wow, 10 miles is a lot. I’m probably under 100 total 4wd miles in my entire lifetime.
So this is factually incorrect? I'm learning a lot from this discussion, it appears my prior experience was overly single-state minded. I grew up in Hawaii where, as one could potentially expect, chains are not something anyone ever thinks about.

That's where the 2LM comes in very handy. Flick it in 4Hi and go for a drive. Just be sure to flick it into real 4Hi from time to time to keep the ADD actuator happy.

Put it this way, anyplace that requires chains as a normal part of life just is not for me. LoL!
