I've been debating about the stock system vs the manual.

I want the manual T-case. I love the looks of the levers as well in the center console.

manual is a better system, my t-case actuator got stuck a few weeks ago and had to clean it out.

if the electric t-case gets stuck in 4hi and won't shift back into 2wd, it will not disengage the front ADD.

how is that better when I had an electronic issue? for the 4runner case to work, I'd had to swap out the front diff as well and deal with another can of worms.

The front dif is also add, the center dif unlocked would allow you to run 4hi home

    Edit: only the v6 4Runner multi-model t-case, the v8 is a full time 4x

I was stuck in 4hi

I had to take off the actuator and manually push the shift rod back into 2wd.

I think you're comparing apples to oranges

The only difference between the v6 taco and v6 4gen 4R as far as the 4x system is conserned is the center locking diff.
That diff allows you to stay in 4hi all the time if you wanted to

yeah, but the 4runner is AWD and not a part time 4wd, slightly different setup and computer logic

Correct, there awd, however The v6 is a part time, the v8 is full time.
The v6 is multimodal, allowing 2hi, 4hi and 4L all with the center dif unlocked, then it also has 4hi locked and 4L locked.

Edit: now granted, the manual is better because you'll know it's in that gear or not, and don't have to fret the electronics messing up.

And if I remember correctly the 6speed fj has a manual tcase with a center dif. But I think the splines are different.

I like the idea of manual too, and most fingers are pointing me that way. I'm not one for wiring much. What year is yours @Aw9d

I just don't wanna end up putting '06 ish parts on a 2014, or does it matter? Also, I'm a bit confused on the electronics. If I do the fj case, what other electronic 4wd system do I need to put with that?

If you do the fj manual case all you'll need is the add wiring.

This is why I haven't done the swap yet. I only have 57k miles on my truck. I don't want to start putting older parts with higher miles on my truck.
