I prefer to plan ahead of things knowing that it will Eventually fail and it's not a very expensive job to do although I had it installed at ECGS shop.

You don't want this to happen. The bitch of it is that it is hardly noticeable when it is broken until it breaks something else. if you use 4WD semi-often, just replace it up front. takes 10 extra minutes

Forgot about that too, if you ignore long enough...it's becomes a more expensive job...

I just did this in my garage on jack stands to go along with my lift. Might as well do it along with suspension install since you're tearing down the driverside assembly anyway.

    Notes:

    • Regardless of pry bar size, I could NOT get enough leverage to remove the CV from under the car on my back. Had to get a cable and sledge to coax it out. This process seemed WAY easier on 2nd gens from the youtube vids I watched. To save frustration, I would do this, unless you have a lift and can position your body to torque it out. The pry bars were bending on me and the CV wouldn't even budge, even when turning in the shaft in 5% increments to find the "sweet spot". Lots of cursing, but popped right out with cable and BFH method
    • My seal was undamaged, but it doesn't hurt to have a spare to replace it.
    • the ECGS removal tool is a MUST IMO, but you could probably get away with renting a blind hole puller.
    • Make sure you refill the front diff afterwards -- I went with ECGS recommendation 85 -140 Lucas Oil (thicker than snot)
    • I have no vibes after 3 inch lift now, and extra peace of mind.

**I have the ECGS removal tool if you want to buy it off me for a discount. Used for ~3 minutes to get the needle bearing out. PM me

Will I need to replace the seal If my 2016 Tacoma only has 17000 miles on it. I just spent 120 on the bushing and the removal tool. I don't want to spend anymore if i don't need to.

Over 40K miles on a full 3" lift. No problems, will replace it when I install new gears.

Its such bullshit that the stealership wont replace my needle bearing under warranty because of my lift.

I cannot even begin to explain how much it pisses me off that only a 2 INCH lift causes this issue. On a truck that is almost garuanteed to be lifted by its owner, you’d think Toyota would have this sorted out.

With that being said, I will be tearing my front end apart again to do the bushing install soon..

How do you figure? No standard warranty will cover damage caused by modifications. The paperwork will state that modifying anything can/will vote your warranty.

Paperwork isn't the boss of me. I got mine replaced under warranty after a lift. I'm pretty awesome though, so I had that going for me.

I don't figure anymore. Replaced it with the new bushing. I am glad they didn't cover it. I feel much better knowing I put a better bushing in it. Thanks Toyota you rock.....
