Just wondering...I have 3,000 miles on my 2017 4wd Sport and the outer and inner row on my front tires are chopped/scalloped pretty bad...They are at 34psi since new and checked regularly....Nature of the beast ?... Anyone else notice the same? I know that this can be common on 4wd but the Toyo tread is very non aggressive and my 04 with a more aggressive thread was much better...Thanks for any help.

From what I have read here , the alignment from the factory seems to leave the trucks toed in . Mine was and I had it aligned , then I think what was called a center point calibration .

Sounds like alignment issue with toe-in. My stock TRD Off-Road tires were pretty soft and got torn up my first light off road trip. I had cuts and chunks missing after 3 days of offroading in Colorado trails.

The insides of mine are jacked. It was aligned pretty early on while they troubleshot other issues.

I'll bring it up next trip to the dealer. If they say my alignment is fine and my shocks are good, then I'll press Goodyear for new ones.

Good luck with Goodyear. On another vehicle two of the expensive Goodyear tire got bubbles on the sidewalks. 3/4 tread left on them. Goodyear offered $70 off a two new tires. The tires are $400 each. I continued to drive on them for a while then switched away from Goodyear. I'd never buy a Goodyear tire.

Yea, I figured they'd be a pain to deal with. It's worth a shot. My dads truck is due for tires, so $70 off some new ones might be acceptable--let him use the coupon and I'll grab some kbro2s

You're allowed 2 wheel alignments from Toyota or so I was told, but if you're steering wheel spoke is straight and the vehicle doesn't pull to one side the alignment is most likely not the culprit.
But if any doubt just have them check it.

I have seen this condition on tires from ppl operating 4X4 on dry pavement though.

My steering wheel is off center and when I go in for 5k tire rotation I'm going to have them realign it. Tires seem to be wearing fine with 2k

What it is worth. Run air pressure that is on tires. Do not run pressure that is on door if pressure on tire is greater. Sticker on my door calls for 29 psi. Tires I have are Michelin LTX M2's. They call for 44 psi. I'm running 38 psi in mine. If you run your pressure to low. Outsides of your tires will have irregular wear. If it is to much pressure the middle will wear faster

My tires had the same scallops for the first 7500 miles or so. They went away now. I run my pressure down at 29-30psi like the door says. It's too hard of a ride for me at 35-40psi. I came from a sports car so I take turns pretty hard. I'm sure that accelerates the edge wear..

Yeah - I got the same wear & Toyo tires at 5K service. I asked and they did align saying the toe one side was a little out. At a few hundred more they are still wearing the same way. If those with other than Toyo tires have the same issue, then I guess it's not the tire. Do these trucks come with camber adjustments? Fords do not. You have to install cam bolts to the lower control arm.

Slow down on the off ramps , that's were a lot of that chopping comes from. There truck tires and when your doing 40mph on an on or off ramps it puts a lot of lateral strain on the tires. The truck wants to keep going straight so the tires are taking the brunt of that force. Slow down a little and you'll notice a big improvement in wear and less to no chopping!

The psi on the side of the tire is too much! It is only there for legal reasons (if you put more than that spec in the tire and it blows up, you can't sue the tire manufacturer..) the people who make the tire have no idea what size of rig the tire is going to be on, the sticker on the door jamb is a good starting point.. i run mine around 33-35psi..

The alignment is causing your tire wear issue.. for som e reason the factory specs call for some toe-in ( a little is ok) and a lot of positive camber (i think it looks silly amd handles poorly). Try to find an independent shop (not a firestone or les scwhab) that can think outside the box when it comes to alignment options.. I found a place close to me that does alot if weekend track racing/auto crossing stuff. They got me a little neg camber, 1.5-2 degs caster and basically zero toe-in.. I've had 2 sets of Bridgestone duellers since then and I was able to wear them right down to the bars evenly all around (with rotations as needed of course..)

It's not the alignment , it's slightly toed in because when it's on the alignment rack the vehicle is not going down the road so you have to slightly toe it in. When your going down the road the weight of the vehicle pushes the front tires and brings the toe in that's why there are slightly toed in. I've done hundreds of alignment at dealership I used to work at and small independent shops over the years. I was the (alignment guy). If it were a toe problem It would show wear on either the inside or outside of the tread. Even chopping in both sides is taking turns to fast!

My challenge has been for Firestone to get the camber right. I can see the outside edge of my tires now starting to wear, even though the spec sheet says it is only a very small amount of camber, it is visible to the naked eye. I just need to take the time to get back in there and have them make it right.

They are handcuffed to the factory angle which calls for pos camber.. I've got a degree negative side to side. The tires are square every time I check and it handles great in the corners..

If he's cornering to hard then he needs different/better tires right?

Or rotate the existing tires front to back and slow down on the turns.
