I have an 06 4 door long bed I'm not planning on doing any true rock crawling ect just camping off road. I will be out alone most of the time an want to have the option of pulling myself out of problems if need be. I have a 9.5k winch and want to weld up a winch plate. I'm trying to keep WT down of Course, can I get away with 3/16th since I'm not going to be pulling myself up any rock cliffs just getting unstuck from ruts ect.

1/4 without question. The strength benefits far outweigh any weight reduction. What is the square footage? 3/16 is 7.65# per sqft and 1/4 is 10.2#. You can calculate weight if you think it may cause issue.

1/4”, difference is minimal. I bet it’ll be the same weight as the 3/16 in the truck if you stop to lay a turd before you leave.
