Does anyone see a major issue with getting a preowned oem flexplate if it is in good shape? Too risky?

My flex plate from Camelback Toyota was $182.91, that dealer was robbing you.

Here’s my invoice from the transmission shop. $928 in labor with customer supplied flex plate.

I asked my mechanic the same question. He said “Would you risk having to take the transmission off again because you cheaped out the extra $100 what a new flexplate would cost?”

Good point... I hate when other people make sense. My flexplate is a different part number. The msrp is about $320. Camelback does have it cheaper. I'd have to ask @gunny1005 for a qoute.

Haha. Mine only has 208000 miles on it. I'm trying to make her last as long as possible. Unless I find a sweet deal on an engine with a supercharger. Then things could happen.

I found a 99 4x4 extra cab with a sc for $3500 - it had a issue with the engine, not completely figured out by the owner. It could have had something as basic as a vacuum leak. Man if I only had the room for another truck lol. If you're patient enough you'll get a great deal.

You can totally do it yourself. Just set aside a day or two. I did it myself on a creeper in my garage.

That’s good to know. I have a about a month off so I can get it done time wise. I just don’t have a transmission jack. Or a second set of hands.

You really do need that fully adjustable transmission jack. Trust me. Not just the scissor lift one, the one that has side to side and up and down fine adjustment knobs.

Re-mating the transmission was by far the hardest thing I’ve ever done. It took me three hours to align the dowel pins to the engine.

I made a particle board jig bolted to the top of my trans jack and used a ratchet strap to hold the trans tightly in place. The less play the better when you're trying to realign it. Even though this is for a V6 it will get you most of the way there:
